i would love the venator as a ship in star wars armada because the empire used them for a short time after the fall of the republic and you'd have to admit some of the retired ships may have fallen into rebel hands.

This isn't a question of Canonicity - They are CANON.

Its just wether they fit the timeframe , and that is the questionable part at the moment, as they have not been shown in use since the very end of the Clone Wars - which was, of course, almost 20 years before the youngest components of Star-Wars Armada (in star Wars geological terms), being the Rebels upgrades and commanders we have.

in Darth Vader 9: Shadow and Secrets III (a canon comic, set a few months after Yavin) we see a Ventator at the Anthan Prime orbital Dockyard , which is an Imperial fleet base.

So yes, they were being used during the time of the OST films. they probably were not all that widespread (the ISD's having supplanted them) but they were still in use.

Which means ffg is likely to produce them sometime as they dig around for more ships for waves. the only question is how soon.

Some want it to be that way, for sure.

im more indifferent on the issue.

Since the venator seems like quite a generalist ship it could be included to be used by imperials similar to how the rebels have the AFMK2.

So, there, but so unpopular due to its overly generalist frame but hyper-specialist titles? ?

As a relatively new player I am actually fond of how generalist they are as my battle plans rarely go as planned so when some of my specialist ships die I can make the battle a close loss rather than a crushing defeat.

Im sure however once im better at flying specialists I will use them more and less AFMK2s.

Well, in universe the Venator is primarily a carrier, though it also has a fair bit of firepower. Eight dual heavy turbolasers, twin dual medium turbolasers, four proton torp tubes, and fifty two point defense lasers. Fairly light for its size, compared to the later imperial designs (about half what a Victory I mounts, on a ship a good 50% larger) but when it carries 500 plus fighters, probably enough for what it does.

In game, it could provide a lot of squadron activations, more than the ISD for a cheaper price, and could come with a number of upgrades meant to boost fighter performance.

If FFG wanted to be mean they could release the SSD with a new A-wing squadron Arvel Crynyd that if at the end of the round it came into base to base contact with the SSD from a maneuver it destroys the SSD and itself. Thats right, FFG make both sides want/need to buy Armada's epic expansion.
