Exhaust upgrade

By Leobarron2000, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Quick question - for those abilities like MS-1 Ion Cannon that can exhaust an upgrade card - that ability only applies to upgrade cards that can be exhausted like NK-7 Ion Cannon? Right?

You can Exhaust any upgrade card.

However, exhausting anything other than an "Upgrade to Use" card is pointless.

MS-1 Ion Cannons
Upgrade card effects that do not have an “exhaust” requirement can still be resolved while that card is exhausted.

So for instance, the gunnery officer is an upgrade card - but it does not "exhaust," therefore the MS-1 ION Cannon cannot affect that upgrade.

Essentially Correct. You can Exhaust 'em, it just doesn't do anything :D

Exhaust Motti all you want (because he's an upgrade card) - he won't Turn "off" and cause a ship on 1 hull remaining to explode :D

But hitting Targeting Scrambler at medium range and you stop it from working that turn...

Turn off Engine Techs at Medium Range to quit out that potential double ram...

Save yourself from Discard hell by turning off an Intel Officer before its used...

Got it. Thanks!

A problem with MS-1 I have encountered is that it is a little situational. It doesn't really work well against cards such as ECM, or against already activated ships.

If I understand it correctly, the exhaust (from MS-1) happens during the damage step - resolve critical effect. The defender can still exhaust ECM before the critical effect turns it off. An Interdictor can still use target scramblers on itself before you shut it off. Turning off Intel is only effective against a ship that hasn't activated yet.

MS-1 is a cheap card, so I usually get it if I have 2 points left over, and a slot open. The right condition just might come up.

That's exactly why I specified doing it at Medium Range ... Where the Interdictor can't use it ;)

(Of course, the best thing is to double-arc it with Blue dice, and turn off both Targeting Scramblers and the Interdictor Title)

But yes. Super-Cheap. You don't get a great deal of use out of routinely - but often, like these 'clinch' upgrades, a single use at a horridly appropriate time, will win games.

Also, if Interdictor is using Targeting Scramblers on your 3-blue CR90B MS-1 shot, it's not using them on the shot from that MC30 you're following it up with, so the effect is the same either way (assuming they're using the card you targeted with MS-1 to defend against MS-1).

And you always could exhaust Interdictor title instead as long as he already exhausted Targeting Scramblers. Black Friday!!

Situational? It could be but is fine for a 2 points upgrade. Kallus depends completely on the enemy fleet but for 3 points I don't care if he is useless. Kallus is better as you don't need an crit of course.

However MS1 works pretty well against ECM. Use a IR-II or double arc with an ISD-II. Exhaust with the side, shoot down with the front.
