Spoiler Warning: New Tie Fighter from Last Jedi

By DiggityDug, in X-Wing

I call conspiracy! This design was "leaked" less than 24 hours after the World's cheating scandal! They clearly want to distract the masses from the injustices occurring!

"New starship designs are the opium of the masses!"

Knights of ren ship me guess

So this was just released about two hours ago. Apparently Hot Wheels put up pre orders for a Last Jedi pack that has the following photo in it:

Here is the reference I found it on:

Looks **** close to a Tie Avenger to me! My money says were getting one of these in X-wing.

I suspect the original image is stretched.

It looks a lot like the classic interceptor if it is shrank a bit.

Good catch OP!

Looks neat, better iteration than what the FO is. I would like to see that in game.

No, look closely at the white circular "thingy" on the inside of the far panel, in the OPs picture it is round, in your compressed picture it is squeezed. The plastic base should also be an elipsoid when viewed from that angle, and not a circle as on your picture.

The OPs picture is correct.

Also reminds me of this fan design for FO Interceptors.

Definitely prefer this version

A little disappointing that their creative departments seem to be tethered to rehashes of the old stuff. That concept art TIE that gets posted every now and again was so cool, and unique while still being identifiably an Imperial derived ship, so they have people who can do interesting things. Instead we get a smushed together TIE Advanced and TIE Interceptor.

Maybe disappointing from a creative perspective but in terms of practicality...

It's only been 30 years. It's an Evolutionary design process for the First Order not Revolutionary. Stands to reason that you take what is proven and develop it.

Just look at the generations of military aircraft we have, generation 3 to generation 5 is about 50 years:

Avengers had a fork ad the end of their wings too. Stretched TIE Itnerceptor that has stats of what an Avenger should have maybe.

But otherwise if this was the next model for 1st Order it would likely be a TIE Interceptor with 1 shield T-rolls, and maybe a slam?

Was about to say that as well, but maybe you can just clip out a rectangle on the rear the get the proper Avenger look down:

This on the other hand looks a bit like this...

I just don't know how they would make it that different. I'm starting to wonder if we have gotten to the end of the life cycle of variations with 3 red dice, three green dice, and a dial.

what could be different stat wise?

If it's Defender stats with Prototype dial and actions like an Interceptor... those mechanics would make it quite different.

I'm very excited for this ship. I'm expecting it to be a little larger than a TIE Fighter, but not so large the thing can't move like one, It's still a TIE.

But what really gets me is that I've wanted Kylo Ren to have his own fighter for a while now, because it only seemed fitting. It also tells me that yes, he will have a flyable ship in Battlefront II. That's also fantastic.

However, its details are what truly thrill me. Falcon-like engines? A cockpit that pulls inspiration from the same thing the Falcon did?

It speaks volumes about Kylo Ren himself. How, while Kylo Ren is very real, Ben Solo exists just as much.

Maybe S-Loops or Talon Rolls, I don't know if we would see a 2Hull 4 Shield Variant at all, and to play with speed we could have a TIE with all 3s be green.

We also don't have any "heavy fighters" with 3 agility and Boost naturally, except maybe the Star Viper, but the E-Wing, Defender and Special Forces don't have it (not that we want a 3red 3green 3Hull 3 shield ship with the ability to take autothrusters and have a good dial and boost but its an option)

@Captain Lackwit I had not caught the connection between falcon type design elements and of course Ben Solo having spent presumably part of his life in the Falcon before his dad lost it.

i am however not a fan of Ben's Patricide. I know it was something done to prove Kyle Ren's evil to the viewer (and get Harrison ford out of the rest of the movies) but some times I feel it was forced in the film.

Nah, give it 3 attack dice, the Interceptor dial, +1 shield, a tech slot and Omega Leader behind the stick and I'll be happy.

Here is my try (maybe way too expensive):

Definitely not a fan of the paneling with the rectangular piece in the center. Slanted supports (as in JayDestroyaC's avenger pic) would look miles better.

Whoa, nice! Where did you get the art?

I hope Kylo in a fighter gets a different pilot ability, with or without the condition.

"Once per round, before you roll attack dice, you may assign the "I'll Show You the Dark Side" condition to the defender."

OR

"Once per round when defending, you may cancel all of the attacker's focus results."

I like the second one because it makes me think of stopping Poe's blaster in TFA, but it's game-balanced by still allowing hits and crits.

I really want a Tie/FO Intercepter or Tie/AV Intercepter with a title for low PS Tie INs, but the new ship has to be planned with Royal Guard in mind, in that case.

It had more reasons than just to prove he was evil.

Who you think he was really proving his evil-ness to? There's a lot more at play here than I think a lot are catching, though some of it is speculation, but not baseless.

Whoa, that's almost broken. Actually, if it comes down to 1-1 it might very well be broken.

I have this hunch it was more to make us "think" he was evil. Not unlike snake killing dumbledore in HP. Like CL said, proving he was evil to someone, presumably snoke.

If that is the direction they are going, and they can pull it off well, I will ultimately be a lot more impressed with the sequels than I am now.

Something else he can read peoples minds and use that against them. I would say he can steal a token and use it during the chosen attack, once per round (as the atk and or the def) from/to a ship targeted/targeting.

Boy the wording sounds terrible let me know if this makes sense.

I think your going to be more inline with a 3 point different like the Tie fighter compared to the Tie fighter F/O. I would make this ship closer to 30-32 at the high end.
