i have a question about the new packs

By ATM2100, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

1: when watching the phantom menace it looked like darth maul an imperial, why is darth maul not emperial?

2: Emperor palpatine never goes anywhere but his ship. why is he involved?

3: while playing skirmish as rebels i see a lot of mak 3, jyn 5, i am tired of seeing unique rebels. Why ashoka?

1) Darth Maul is annoyed with his boss, who replaced him with a new apprentice (Count Dooku), so Maul isn't that happy with Palpatine. He's gone his own way since then, see the Clone Wars for the whole story, including why he's not dead at the time of the Galactic Civil War period. See Rebels for his most recent escapades.

2) To be fair, Emperor Palpatine can go where ever he pleases. He's the Emperor! Plus the new campaign is set in Coruscant, which is where he lives. I agree it may be a bit silly to see him running around in Skirmish games all the time, but we'll see how popular he ends up being.

3) Why not? Rebels, while having some rank and file troops, have always been about the named heroes doing all the heavy lifting. The Empire is about the faceless rank and file, so not doing loads of generics for the Rebels feels okay to me. As for Ahsoka, see Clone Wars and Rebels for why she's popular, and a good choice to include.

1. His backstory.

2. He was quite hands-on with Anakin.

3. Rebels are unique by their nature of being the resistance. Also, Ahsoka is a force user, so fits the wave's overall theme of force users.

Watching SW: Rebels and/or SW: Clone Wars might be good before or after playing HotE.

sure he is emperor but he has responsibility and an empire to run.

I would like the idea but rebels need more troopers.

1) Maul's alliance with Palpatine predates the Empire by almost two decades. It also ended well before the Empire was created. He's on his own side during the time period of IA, and certainly no Rebel ally. Hence the only faction left from him is Scum.

2) Ol' Sheev doesn't need to get involved, but certainly capable if he wants to. Until we see the missions he shows up in, we have no way of knowing how involved he even gets.

3) I don't know the breakdown of troops for Empire vs Rebels, but I'm pretty sure it's a large order of magnitude. There are simply so many more Imperials that it would be nigh-impossible to make them all unique. The Rebels however are much more disparate and unique, simply by virtue of their existence that it lends itself much more to unique characters (even if more than a few of them are derivative anyway)

The (real world, not lore) answer for both 2) and 3) is the same: people wanted them to be. In particular, with regards to unique rebels there are tons of characters from the films and rebels that will sell better than troop types.

1. I don't think Maul ever was Imperial. He was Sith, but you'd have to watch The Clone Wars and Rebels to see why that affiliation changed. Long story short- people generally don't like it when they're literally cut in half on the job and get screwed over on worker's comp. :P

2. That's simply not true. Again, watch The Clone Wars and you can see Sidious in action more. Plus, as others pointed out, this campaign is on Coruscant anyway.

3. I'm afraid I don't understand what Mak 3 or Jyn 5 are. Ahsoka is added because she's a popular character- fans want her, and FFG knows she'll sell.

Rebels have 3 sets of Troopers already, what's preventing you from running them?

And wookiees and saboteurs

And smugglers...

I think another point to be made about troopers in this expansion is this: this is, much like The Bespin Gambit, a more stealth based campaign. You're in the heart of Coruscant- the Rebels aren't gonna want to go invading the city with groups of Rebel troopers- instead, they'll want more Spec-Op based teams.

Of course, the Rebels will be free to bring whatever allies they want in the campaign, but I think the lack of troopers fits this wave's flavor well.

What other troopers can we really have for Rebels? Page's commandos? Trooper commanders? Maybe in an Endor Box

Exactly, Endor was a much more conventional commando raid that devolved into a general battle. Therefore I would expect a focus on Rebel Troopers in that set, preferably with an upgrade to Skirmish Fenn and perhaps Kayn Somos as one/some of the cards.

There's a decent amount of stuff out there.

Rebel honor guards might be a neat way to have a sort of counter to RGs.

Then, there's just random trooper stuff that we don't have yet, like Missile troopers and such.

Pilots haven't really been touched on yet, and Star Wars fans know that rebel pilots often have trouble sticking to their cockpits.

This game does not simply pull from the films, it also pulls from some old Extended Universe content, and will continue to pull heavily from the new canon.

(1) In The Clone Wars and Rebels, both of which are canon, Maul's affiliation is clearly Scum. We see him working as Scum more than as Sith... And we never see him as Imperial, as the Empire didn't exist during his time in the Phantom Menace.

(2) In The Clone Wars and current canon novels, we actively see Palpatine being more active. Also, in the film, he travels to the Death Star from somewhere else -- this would be the Imperial throne world, Coruscant... Which is where this box takes place. So it's literally in his backyard.

(3) In Star Wars, the heroes are unique, defined individuals, while the enemy is, by and large, a faceless mass of soldiers. This theme has transferred relatively well to Imperial Assault. As to it being Ahsoka, she's featured heavily in a variety of areas that are all 100% canon, and she's a badass character in general... Though I'd personally have preferred Kanan myself.

And? What are you trying to prove?

FFG isn't allowed to sell IA directly because it counts as a "board game", and Hasbro has the right to Star Wars board games. You can buy Troopers, Echo Base, and Rangers on any other board game website though.

Can we take a moment to acknowledge that "Sheev Palpatine" sounds like the space equivalent to "Tim Evilface"?

I go two ways with the name. A) It's hilariously bad. 2) Sounds like the kind of guy you'd want to guard your drinks from at a party if you were a lady.
