Some Math: Black One vs R4-D6/IA

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing

Which would you shave from this list? In play-testing it seems like the Black One title might be saving Biggs for longer than the IA would. Knocking off a target lock from a list that uses ordnance to alpha can be very strong. But using Black One also makes you a bit predictable because you have to leave room for the boost in this list. Right now it's 101 points.

Adaptability 0
Rey 2
R2-D2 4
Alliance Overhaul 0

Poe Dameron — T-70 X-Wing 31
Push the Limit 3
R5-P9 3
Pattern Analyzer 2
Integrated Astromech 0
Black One 1

Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25
R4-D6 1
Integrated Astromech 0

I would say keep IA on Biggs, while you might be able to strip a few TL off of Biggs and your other ships later, there are still plenty of threats that don't use TL, or they move after Poe. The other option, if you want both, is to use BB-8, then you don't have to boost and Poe's offense can be better, this leaves you with only 1 regen, but that is often enough.

Black One without PTL on Poe is hardly ever used.

Would say Astromech with IA for Biggs, because that is going to be good in every single matchup, while Black One only is really good versus ordnance and alright versus action-stackers.

Furthermore, I believe that Michael should be compensated by FFG.

This would be my option:

Norra Wexley — ARC-170 29
Push the Limit 3
Kyle Katarn 3
BB-8 2
Alliance Overhaul 0
Ship Total: 37
"Snap" Wexley — T-70 X-Wing 28
Veteran Instincts 1
R5-P9 3
Pattern Analyzer 2
Integrated Astromech 0
Black One 1
Ship Total: 35
Biggs Darklighter — X-Wing 25
R4-D6 1
Integrated Astromech 0
Ship Total: 26

This is not a mathematical argument, but I like Black One, because it adds a tool to the list, albeit at the cost of efficiency. This is not necessarily a good tradeoff, but that's the version I would try first.

An option: swap Pattern Analyzer for Primed Thrusters and keep Black One.

I often find with PTL Poe that I'm seldom getting full value from PA, but Black One will still trigger from Primed Thrusters.

What Hawkstrike said; kill Pattern Analyzer. It doesn't synergize with PTL. Primed Thrusters is the better upgrade here, and it allows you to keep both IA and Black One.

PTL Poe LOVES PA.

Dial a green, Delay check pilot stress step, perform action, PTL second action, get stress , Check pilot stress -you revealed a green-shed stress.

Poppycock. See above.

Instead, put primed thrusters on instead of PA. It will help a lot more in the short game.

I think you're wrong there. Ptl and PA are like peas and carrots.

Heh .. I'd never considered that timing combo! I've been missing out -- having PA, but only using it with K-turns and T-rolls!

Edit: I also tend to run PTL Poe with BB-8, which accomplishes much the same thing. That may be why I never considered just the PTL + PA combo. Appreciate the tip!

Looking at your list, I think I might drop PTL from Poe, and exchange it for Rage, for a 99 point list. With Pattern Analyzer, you can use it 2 of every 3 turns. Granted: you'd basically never be getting use out of Black One, so that's a problem. :/

You're right! I hadn't considered that timing either. That has my gears turning...
