Made for asteroid mining operations, the Rockhopper is built around a powerful tractor beam unit.
Its small size and powerful thrusters enable it to tow large valuable ore bearing rocks out to a refinery ship that is too large to maneuver safely deep within the asteroid field.
I made this from a small capsule toy Gundam backpack, some 40k bitz (cockpit is a terminator arm), and the thrusters are 1/144th scale verniers also from Gundam.
It is painted in the orange and white livery of Exogauge Prospecting, a small exploration subsidiary of the Tenloss Corporation, and known to operate in the outer rim and wild space areas of the galaxy.
While considered a legitimate business concern, they regularly carry far more armament than would seem appropriate even in the wild space regions, and for some strange reason are continuously stumbling onto the discovery of recently raided independent mining operations - all of which have no survivors, and the incidents are promptly reported to the proper authorities via the correct channels, of course. The outer rim can be a dangerous place... ![]()
Rumours of Exogauge Prospecting involvement in less than honourable adventures have occasionally cropped up, but are swiftly rebuked by the both the parent company and local law enforcement. The whispers, coincidentally, die out almost as quickly as the whisperers, who invariably and unsuspiciously meet their fate in hideously natural ways.
