How good is Crackshot really

By Schu81, in X-Wing

Try some Crackshot with Homing Missiles sometime. Tis wonderful.

Crackshot is always good, but:

As my rule of thumb:

The cheaper the ship, the better is crack shot on it

1. Because you can afford more ships with crack shot

2. More expensive need their EPT sllt mostly for other, more expensive EPTs to be (more) competitive

I think you mean, different types of ship are good now. Why would you fly something low health when it can be bombed to death in a round by K wings?

Also, how is scum as a faction broken? I mean, mindlink is the flavour of the day, but the scum faction is not just jumpmasters. Poor Starvipers and Khiraxzs.

I'll spare us the lecture about ships being pushed out of competitive play. But to Scum: The faction is wholly represented by two ships and an EPT. The Protectorate and Jump and Mindlink.

The Protectorate is a solid ship. No complaints.

Better X-Wing minds than you and I have lists of reasons the JM5K is broken. FFG has nerfed it THREE times. It's the most (or second most) used ship at worlds.

Look at the last FAQ. Zuckuss? Mindlink is like a stress-ignoring, bump-free, 1-point PtL. Broken.

Scum is the new Palp Aces: Everywhere and unfun.

Wtf are you talking about?

He's saying that while PARTS of the scum faction are broken, the whole thing isn't just because of those parts. Poor Starvipers, etc.

Pre nerf I ran double crackshot Palp Aces with Vader and Maarek Stele. When I first built the list I went PS crazy at 10 and 9, with Vader having a Procket but as it evolved I realised that ATC at range 1 was about as good as a Procket and that Crackshot could make that shot better.

My original decision was influenced by Dengaroo and Commonwealth I was flying 11 health worth of Aces, but the 2 Crackshots were essentially -2 health to my opponent's ships, which potentially could give me the advantage.

As the meta evolved from Commonwealth and Dengaroo to Parattanni I felt that the Crackshots gave me a really good chance of killing Fenn and once that was done (not super easy) it would make dismantling Assaj and Manaroo easier.

Crackshot is a really good card and I don't think it's value goes up the more you have. It's either a card that equates to -1 Hull for your opponent, a card that pushes through crits, or a card that enables a necessary damage output from a swarm list like TIEs.

Its not useful everywhere, there are ships out that that need a specific EPT, but for those that don't, even 1 can change the face of a game for you.

My opponent brings, what 20-30 hull on his ships for 100pts. For 1pt each I can pretty much guarantee negating 1 hull, that's too cost efficient.

In large numbers it's too easy for 6/7pts of Crack Shot to straight up delete 20-30pts of small ship.

You seen to be forgetting that each point of Crack Shot is attached to 14-18 points of eminently squishy Tie Fighters. They're quite easy to remove from the board before they fire.

you are paying 1 point for your opponent's 1hp. Against high agi targets with low hp, you could essentially "buy" his entire ship for just 3-4 points

True. My proposed nerf was pretty soft though, just removing the way it makes opponents burn tokens without you needing to use it.
