As I hadn't yet printed out the materials for X-Wing Kart, nor built a course, I set up a Canyon Run at the FLGS. First run featured 30 points of T70 X-Wings. The Turbo Laser Towers mark the gates, and the Ion Cannon Turrets mark the finish line. A draft was set up for Unique pilots and astromechs.
Daniel (not actually piloting Black One) just plain ran away with the first race - we kept blanking out on our attacks, even with TLs all over the place. This picture is from Turn 5; the Starting Line is at the board edge off camera on the lower left. This race lasted just 10 Turns, and under 30 minutes. Daniel won it easily, and I think I managed to sneak out second(?).
For the second race, we decided on TIE Strikers, and 24 points. All three were Black Squadron Pilots with Adaptive Ailerons; Daniel fielded LWF and Trick Shot, Mitchell went with LWF and Intimidation, and I flew with TIE mk2 and Snap Shot. Intimidation never procced, and Trick Shot saw only one use for no extra damage. Snap Shot fired six or eight times, for two points of damage.
Turn 2, no shooting allowed until Turn 3. Pity. I could have erased Mitchell here.
Turn 3; I s-looped and Snap Shot and had Range 1 on Daniel. For a total of two points, I think. But I was out of arc, barely, and Daniel was forced to plink Mitchell.
Turn 4. Nobody knows where Daniel is going, least of all him. Mitchell pulls into the lead, and no one has a shot on anyone.
Missed a picture for Turn 5, but Daniel ran over the pylon and took a damage, and I think I Snapped and shot Mitchell for maybe another single point.
Turn 6. Daniel ran over another pylon - give him a break, it was his first time flying a Striker! And I Snapped and shot Mitchell, finally killing him and sending him back to the previous checkpoint.
Turn 7. Mitchell catches up quickly, hitting Daniel for I think a point. I bump the pylon, taking a point of damage, and Daniel drops another point on me.
Turn 8, and I'm on one Hull after hitting the pylon on my way out of the second gate. Mitchell misjudged just where the Aileron maneuver would take him, and made emergency maneuvers to avoid the massif in front of him, putting him in a very difficult position this turn. I again had a shot and maybe a Snap Shot on Daniel, for at best a single point of damage.
Turn 9. Mitchell masterfully pulls his Striker around, and I Snap and Range 1 Daniel back to gate 2.
Turn 10, and Daniel is already back out in front of Mitchell, having placed himself at the line in a more advantageous position than Mitchell was in after the last turn. Daniel had an obstructed shot on me here, his only chance to use Trick Shot - to no avail. And things are looking good for me!
Turn 11. Well, shoot. Oh, I crossed the finish line, all right. But I struck the pylon along the way and blew myself up. Mitchell's shot on Daniel just didn't cut it, and I headed back to the second gate.
Turn 12, and Daniel takes his second race for the evening! Mitchell finds himself in an awkward position, and I'm coming up fast.
Turn 13, and the fight for second place turns vicious. Mitchell hurts himself fly over a rock, makes it across the line, and succumbs to my blasters once again.
Turn 14 gave me second place, and a renewed determination to get X-Wing Kart going more formally (ha ha) at the FLGS. We had a blast.
