Force Illusion

By wakefieldbw, in Star Wars: Destiny

Am I correct in saying that Force Illusion allows you to block 1 source of damage (base, or base + modifiers) only? That is, you couldn't use 1 Force Illusion to block more than 1 source of damage (e.g., 2 base sides of damage)?

"Before attached character takes damage, you may discard cards from the top of your deck equal to that damage to block it. Then discard this upgrade from play."

That is the way I read it.

I like this card a lot in terms of value, which is to say, cost vs damage mitigation, but I worry that if you're playing with lots of damage mitigation mechanics, games could actually be long enough that having 3-4 fewer cards in your deck could be a bigger deal than you might think ... which I suppose balances it. Good times.

Yeah, cards for damage isn't really a great deal. Every team has more than 15 health, and thus the entire board has a swing of more than 30 health (yours plus an opponents). So I really think that this one as well as No Mercy are kind of weak sauce, unless you have really bad cards in your deck in the first place.

It's an incredibly powerful card in the right deck. Palpatine does only have 15 health, and often your game comes down to surviving that one uninterrupted burst of modified damage just once. It's the only deck I presently run it in. But it was literally the reason I won 2 of my games last night at our tournament.

True, Palpatine can be very vulnerable while waiting for Rise Again to show up in the deck. It's just so painful to lose all those cards...

I know, it hurts so much losing those cards. However, I believe in Destiny you need learn to accept it as part of the game.

Cards are another resource that already has a use built in to the rules in the form of discard to reroll.

Don't become too attached to your things, but learn to spend them wisely.

It's too bad it doesn't get around Vibroknife. In our first few plays with SoR, been seeing that card make shields and Force illusion not work well. Think it will be popular enough in top tier to make Force Illusion never make the cut (except for Palpatine only decks in ranges damage heavy meta areas).

Isn't it an upgrade? In my experience, I want to put three dice-rolling upgrades on Palpatine as fast as possible to make him a little less vulnerable to dice mitigation.

Obi wan you listen. A Jedi does not crave these things.
