Maul would be disappointing if he was more expensive, but I don't think he's all that bad for 7 threat. He might be better if his movement mitigation was before an attack instead of after, but Reach should help- just wish Reach and Focus could be used at the same time.

I think his command card allows him to do both if I can read that right (Reach, Focus and Cleave)

You can see in this picture that deployment is one per card.

Though, I don't know, maybe its assumed "transformation" brings in more for some reason. Doesn't seem all that shapeshifter-y, but maybe.

I was just looking at this and thinking about the campaign: It would be fun to use some other figure (like the alliance smuggler) in the place of the shape shifter when first deployed (maybe put out the false deployment card too). Then, upon activating you could switch out the figures and the deployment card for the shapeshifter. A little mean, but very thematic and pretty fun I think.

I love that idea. Does the alliance smuggler come in gray? I don't own it yet. My IA game is so noob, I've had the game for months and just now put together my AT-ST (curse the fore cannon insert)

Alliance smuggler is brown. I don't think it would have to be the alliance smuggler, but I think I'd tell my group that they we're given an ally, whom ever it was, and then pull the old switcharroo upon first activation. Just for story reasons

I think Maul could be very interesting in Skirmish with the right command cards. If I'm reading his ability right, he doesn't die if you exhaust his card without activating him, such as with Take Initiative or Change of Plans. Could be a way to deny points if time is almost up and you only have one round left (though TBH there aren't that many good Change of Plans targets for him, unless you import Obi Wan).

This is dirty. I'm not how long you could make it last, but you basically turn Maul into a statue of death -- I can think of at least two command cards that let you exhaust him, meaning you can wait until the opportune time to give him his final activation... Which may or may not make your opponent think twice about shooting at him in the first place, as opposed to a target they can remove more reliably. Also, this "statue" mode makes him pretty amazing at holding objectives.

I suspect this will be addressed in an FAQ, though, where he still dies at the end of the round, even if he didn't activate.

I hope they don't address that. That seems like the most interesting part of him. Still pretty hard to pull off and build around and unless you time it right, he'll just die on the next round instead - could mean the difference between victory or defeat for sure.

I don't suspect or expect any changes to Sustained by Rage, and would argue against it.

The wording of Sustained by Rage sounds very deliberate in avoiding the simpler wording of "unless your deployment card is exhausted".

Also Leave Them to Me class card from the Nemeses class deck in the campaign deploys a villain with an exhausted deployment card.

Sustained by Rage is an awesome tactical option, and if people are able to pull off things like that with it, so much the better. It just adds another challenging fold to the game.

Now... Weequays on the other hand....

There's 3+ other topics whining about weequays, take it somewhere else.

Does anyone else think that the Riot guards will have a Stun baton and maybe a type of Deflection as well?

I wanna say the super stormtrooper droids stats were leaked somewhere but I can't find them now. Anyone have a guess or see/hear/smell something at Worlds?

I want Riot Guards to have protection from blast.

Stun baton is a good guess too.

There are lots of cool possibilities with Riot Troopers. They could be protectors, they could gain +blocks while adjacent to other Riot Troopers, they could possibly push enemy units...

I expect the Riot troopers to be modeled very similar to Imperial Guards but with some new flare so that they aren't too redundant. I'm guessing they'll make use of the new block tokens for adjacent friendlies. I also hope stun baton! Push could also be cool.

At risk of sounding like a broken record, I also hope that there's an IP class deck centered around Martial law. I just think it would be very cool for this campaign.

Brawler, Trooper for sure. Maybe Guardian on top?

In my imagination, they cannot be anything else than better and cheaper Royal Guards. But actually, I think that the FFG guys are more creative than that!

I really hope, that they have some kind of reroll. Squad Training or Professional would be great. I don't see myself using any Troops without rerolls ...

From another thread, we saw some partially spoiled cards at Worlds. The Riot Troopers are Trooper/Brawler/Gaurdian

They have an ability called crowd control: While attacking you may apply +1 Damage. If you do and the.... (can't see the rest)

...maybe ...

"attack doesn't miss, the target becomes stunned"?

or "attack doesn't miss, push the target one space"?

or "attack misses, you hit yourself in the groin and becomes stunned"

Why would applying +1dmg allow you another good thing for the attack?

Good point. I was thinking of the agenda card counter-strike that allows you to apply +1 block while defending...if the target does not suffer damage, the attacker suffers 3 damage. So in that case, you get the positive buff, followed by a positive response. So, it's not unheard of. But, in my third example if you miss, you hit yourself in the nuts, so that's sort of the opposite outcome:)

Edit: Thematically, I could also see it reading ..."if the attack misses, push the target 1 space". This would be sort of like when police swing their batons to get people to back up.

Yes, I was just looking at Counter-Strike in my PBF. But Counter-Strike is an agenda card that costs influence and is a single-use. It's not free. Abilities have costs or other compromises, or there is little reason for them to be optional.

He can Focus OR Reach+Cleave. But you can focus him some other way, and then he gets all three.

He was talking about his COMMAND CARD giving him all three at once.

I really hope that they make extra trooper packs of both the Dark Troopers and the Riot Troopers. I will definitely need several of them

Extremely unlikely, unfortunately. Only stormtroopers have ever gotten that treatment, and... well, they're kind of the archetypal unit of the game.

I kind of dislike Maul's sculpt, specifically the cane sheath (other than that, I actually really like it).

I rewatched the Rebels Season 2 finale fight, and it's true that he uses the sheath in combat like that. There's even a shot that's almost identical to the model.

But for some reason, I think it looks silly on this sculpt. I would've much preferred the pose he's in now, with no cane sheath.

I guess it helps him stand out on the board though, especially when we already have another dual red bladed force user with the GI.

These sculpts seem a little fluffier than previous. I'll wait and see but hopefully we aren't getting GW's big heads and bigger hands.
