Objectives revealed

By ovinomanc3r, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

When are the objectives revealed? With the fleet of after choosing the initiatives?

I thought objectives were secret until the lower bid choose who go first but it could be one of those rule I played wrong since the beginning when I was learning the main things, as squadrons' accuracies, overload timing and stuff like that.

Initiative has to be decided.

First and Second Player has to be decided.

B ecause only Second Player reveals their Objectives .

From the Rulebook:

2. Gather Components: Each player places his ships, squadrons, and cards next to the play area and near his edge. Set each shield dial and squadron disk to its maximum shield and hull values. Then set the activation slider of each squadron to display the blue end of the slider with the a icon. Assign the appropriate defense tokens to each ship and unique squadron. Gather enough command dials and speed dials for the fleet. Assign ID tokens to ships and squadrons as necessary.

3. Determine Initiative: The player whose fleet has the lowest total fleet point cost chooses which player is the first player. The first player places the initiative token next to his edge with the a side faceup. If the players are tied in fleet points, flip a coin to decide which player makes the choice.

4. Choose Objective: The first player looks at all three of his opponent’s objective cards and chooses one to be the objective for the game.

From the Tournament regulations:

3. Players determine initiative. The player with the lowest fleet point total decides which player has initiative. If both players are tied with the same fleet point total, players must use a method to determine a player at random, such as tossing a coin. The winner decides who has initiative and places the initiative token next to their edge with the blue side containing the a icon face up. The player with initiative is the first player.

4. The first player looks at all three of their opponent’s objective cards and chooses one to be the objective for the game.

Objectives are not stated to be shown before that point (or even after that point, if you're 1st player)

While technically true, it gets undercut by people exchanging their fleet lists in a tournament, which includes the objectives on them.

Mine doesn't.

Print out/write out one with the objectives and one without. Turn in the one with; show your opponents the one without.

Only if you exchange your fleet list.

Which you're not supposed to do.

Its not in the Rules (either as the Game Rules, or the Tournament Guidelines).

Having a Fleet list is for the judge to check your lists.

Not your opponent.

When you follow the letter of the rules - you get out the Ships, Upgrades, Squadrons and Components, and have them laid out for your opponent to see.

They can see what your Fleet consists of.

That's step 2 shown above, essentially.

What it doesn't say, is "Show your opponent your fleet list."

This is one of those times where you have to be pedantically technically correct in your almost-religious devotion to the rule as written - or you violate the Spirit and the letter of the rules.

Don't exchange fleet lists then.
