Has anyone done Thrawn's Star Destroyer symbol on an ISD yet?
The Chimaera
I rarely even do more than base coat/wash the bottom of the models...
If you know a decal artist you can use these images;
I'm waiting until I can afford to get the big decal hydrographically applied.
I've tried four times to apply it by hand, and failed ever time, despite 30+ years experience with doing just such things........

Likely for the same reason tape and stencils are lost causes on our ships, they are not flat surfaces. Makes that stuff very difficult.
In this case, its the size (and thus the weight). Either you try to do a single large sheet transparent-backed decal all at once, or you consign yourself to about a thousand little cutouts.
So again, Hydro is going to be the way to go -it won't care about the surface at that point. Its jus tmore expensive (because I've already lost 5 full-sheet decals)
When you look at the pattern on the ship, it looks like the surface is filled in; why not something like filler putty or something for the flat surface in the chimaera pattern?
For me, its not the small hull detailing pattern - its the larger superstructure jumps that break it.
Ah, the reactor plate?

What does that mean, exactly? My Google skills fail me.
Ah! I had been looking under hydrography, which is
entirely
different.
It looks like DIY kits can be had. You might justify it as a business expense and create a niche market for yourself, dipping ships for fun & profit.

I'm almost at the point where I'm going to try a light/shadow mask and paint it that way, if I can sequester myself in the basement alone for a few hours without the toddler...

Good luck! Mine just turned three and is my devoted sidekick when I'm not working.

This may seem like a overtly simple solution, but why not try putting the toddler in the basement

Because the basement has the lighting and stability equipment, as well as the desk and such.
Also, its deadly down there.
