A game that has left you in the dust...

Honest question, do you guys' communities just always bring their hardcore lists to weekly Armada?

I'm all for iron sharpening iron, but we give that a rest in our community pretty often. Some weeks the name of the game is just fun ideas, not competitiveness.

The store I usually play at has a number of competitive sorts that will bring the same list when they're preparing for a tournament, but they're still chill, and I can't say that we follow the meta, because we don't have one. Most of us are rarely on here, so I don't know if that's a factor, but there just isn't one.

Apparently it is a very Canadian thing :D

seriously though as soon as the interview with Norm happened and he confirmed that they all brought the same list...I didn't know what to think.

It is strangely brilliant and also a bit eerie at the same time. I'd rather everyone brought diverse, fun lists, but it is a competition. I can't fault them for their prep.

It is almost as if there was a lot of work done with that list and variation tested, over time as a community.

What we (I'm TO local) tend to do is this, most of us bring our 'competitive' lists, that we are dialing in for competitive play every week, and hope to get a game with it. This is to refine, eliminate, and optimize as well as gain experience playing it. We discuss the games, wargame it (theorize and occasionally play flat out perfect scenarios), and discuss all aspects of the game both during, and after, even consulting our opponent about split decisions during the game, to sort of dial in what the 'best decisions' are and why we think so.

We also bring our fun flight of fancy lists, and play those games too. Above all, it is a positive community building exercise where we really support eachother, despite attempting in the most sportsman way possible to beat the living snot out of eachother at any and every occasion, particularly the tournament scene.

With the above in mind, something terribly effective was found and dialed in/practiced, why wouldn't they cart it? You don't kill the golden goose.

Sounds like my D+O list... Which I just designed a new version which has me excited again.

Hm, I think our respective lists always differed in so far as you had more ship firepower and I went for more (rogue) squads. I will try Admo, 2 CRAs, 1 CRb, 1 Gr75 and 6-7 squads. None-rogues would save points, but have too often proven to be invaluable later on, unless meeting with overwhelming squad power.

Yea, this one actually uses the A-Wing Aces and a Comms Transport to hand out squadron tokens as needed

corvettes cant hold those tokens so well if they want to have an emergency nav. but I guess the MC30s can.

and then: as useful as Tycho clearly is, with two squads you practically give away those points for free, very often getting nothing in return. You may have delayed for a turn, maybe two, and thats only if there is no intel in the mix that allow their bombers to mess with your fragile ships right away.

If you by then overwhelmed a carrier, fine. It sure can work, and certainly the agility and multi-directional flanking with your ships makes it more difficult for a squad heavy list. My Mc30 is Admo, however, that means its more personal...your take with scouts can afford to stay away a bit more when necessary, not a bad thing.

1-2 turns of delay means 1-2 turns of harsh strikes that can take out the carrier. Sometimes it could be 3 turns as well but it depends.
