"Theme" of a future wave

By Sciencius, in X-Wing

I really like that FFG continuously strive to add novel mechanisms to the game, and also that they tend to release waves with one or more "themes" i.e. focus on a specific game mechanic that almost all ships in that wave adds to.

E.g. in wave 9, where the major theme was "firing-arcs" introducing small-ships with front and rear-arcs, mobile firing-arcs on large ship and the in-your-face "Fearlesness" ept and "Protectorate" title. Wave 8 focused heavily on ordnance and bombs. Wave 10 was partially about movement: the Quadjumpers novel back-wards movement, the TIE Striker premovement, the U-wing "0-flip" title, but even also the Upsilon's coordinate and the traitor TIE-pilot Ashokas pilot ability allowed you to perform movement actions. Wave 10 also introduced the conditions.

What "theme" would you like a future wave release to focus on or introduce?

This. So much this.

A certain Imperial ship whose name rhymes with "ton" and "goat".

Depends on if it can SLAM.

'Water Wings'

Title. Fun Moat only.

Once per round, when defending against sharks, you may change 1 blank result to an *evade* result.

You can only equip this card if you have the *flippers* upgrade icon in your action bar.

LOL, love this so far..

Fixed broadside arcs, no forward and rear arcs.

Squad upgrades. Bring all generics up a notch. (Might have to do something about those delta's)

Can only bring three so not a massive deal if the upgrade scales. I'd be more concerned about Z-95's and Academy Pilots.

Rogue One. New X's that come with two coppies of a new dial you can use on your old ships. New Rebel Y's with an EPT and more copies of Extra Munitionss and Bomb Loadout. TIE Reaper pack for Empire that comes with another upgrade to help TIE Swarms. Since Scum doesn't have any ships shown in Rogue One, FFG can make one up for Dr. Evazan and Ponda Boba. Those characters had to get from Jedha to Tatooine somehow. Then Star Wars can retcon the ship later like they did for the Raider Corvette.

I think the TIE Reaper was a bit superfluous in Rogue One. They might as well have sent the Deathtroopers to battle in Krennic's shuttle, since that was associated with them previously. Still, I the Jumpmaster is a thing, the Reaper will be a thing I guess.

Jumpmaster is in Freemaker Adventures. Reaper appeared twice in the movie. There was one at the asteroid station where Cassian shows up. It did more in the movie than the Quadjumper.

Epic-only large based ships. (Yeah, it'll never happen.)

A wave of Prequel ships.

Or, shuttles for all:

Rebel = stolen lambda

Imps = Sentinel-class for Thrawn or Theta-class shuttle as the Emperor's official ride (reprint the Emperor!!)

Scum = stolen Sentinel-class for Hondo.

Heck, just release the Sentinel shuttle, and toss the Tydirium cards in as a bonus!!

The theme? A reaction based mecanic for low PS units, maybe after acquiring something akin to a target lock:

- Your opponent barrel rolls, you can barrel roll

- Your opponent earns a focus, you earn a focus

- Etc.

Could be fun.

Reactions in general could be interesting.

Snap Decision (EPT) "You may skip your perform action step. If you do, after an enemy ship at range 1 performs an action, you may perform 1 free action shown in your action bar."

That or maybe something like:

Astromech: speedy

If an opponent performs a boost or barrel roll and ends at range 1, you may immediately perform a boost or barrel roll action.

EPT: looking over the shoulder

Once per round, when an opponent declares you as the target of an attack, you may acquire a focus token if the attacker has a focus token.

You know, fun stuff like that.

Well the next wave seems to focus on the theme of double upgrade icon slots. Unguided rockets and wookie commandos being the examples.

I would love to see a wave where the theme is all about ships that are unique in the lore. My go to example of this would be the rogue shadow from the force unleashed games. The theme would be that there are no generic pilots for the wave because the ships were unique in the universe and so every ship would have a mandatory unique title so you can't fly more than one of them.

I'd like a wave about theft and capture. I'm thinking about Palob like effects. Pilots that steal focus, evade, or shields from enemy ships. They could switch red and blue target locks, maybe even Pilot skill for a round.

I was thinking along those lines when I made this custom EPT for my Firefly expansion pack...

I'd like to see a theme where Imperials were actually encouraged to participate and be a part of the competitive scene- not just cannon fodder for Scum and Rebel ships.

Interesting since "I'll show you the dark side" has been kicking my can all over the place

Yea most of my losses lately have been to imps.

They are still super strong against most lists. Just a few things like bombs that's scaring them away.

Triple imp aces/defenders are still one of the scariest matchups for me as a mainly jousting player.
