Crackshot vs Evade Tokens

By Schu81, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello everyone!

Since the lates FAQ Crackshot has to be used at the start of the "compare results step".

So, if Crackshot is used, does it also cancel Evade Tokens?

Example:

Attacker has got 2 hits.

Attacker uses Crackshot

Defender has got 0 evade results from thrown dice but 1 evade token, which the defender would like to use, so there would be only 1 hit left?

Does the evade token get cancelled by Crackshot then, so there will be 2 hits on the defender?

And if so... wouldn't it be much smarter to keep the evade token, because in this example it would get cancelled anyway without any use?

In short yes.

In long, the way evade tokens work changed in the TFA rulebook. Now they add an evade result, which technically means adding an extra green die set to an evade. Which means Crack Shot can cancel it.

Also, keep in mind that the defender could still use his evade token to make the attacker discard his crackshot to push those two crits through.

Equally, you can spend your evade token to 'over-evade' (e.g. he's rolled 1 hit, you've rolled 1 evade, you spend the token to get 2) and prevent him being able to use Crack Shot to good effect at all.

Biggest problem I see is you're doing the steps in the wrong order. The correct order should be:

ATTACK
-Attacker rolls attack dice
-Defender uses abilities to modify attack dice
-Attacker uses abilities and tokens to modify attack dice
DEFENSE
-Defender rolls defense dice
-Attacker uses abilities to modify defense dice
-Defender uses abilities and tokens to modify defense dice (like spending his evade token to add 1 evade)
COMPARE RESULTS
-Attacker chooses to spend Crackshot or not (cancelling 1 evade result, however it was generated)
-Cancel hit results, then crit results based on number of evade results
-Deal damage based on remaining hit and crit results

With that in mind, the answer to your question becomes obvious

So, if I get you right... the Defender has to make a decision first, whether he'd like to spend the evade token or not, and I get to use crackshot AFTER that?

I thought it would work completely different. :D

My idea was that the attacker would have to use Crackshot very early.

Nope, crackshot is the very last decision made throughout the attacking process, after all tokens are spent

There is a reason why it is a good Upgrade Card for a 1 cost.

Yes it is a one shot use, but it nearly garantee that it will deal 1 dmg during the game.
