I may be in the minority, but I think there's a fine line when squads are named. The purpose of naming is a squad is to have a faster, simpler way to refer to an archeype without needing to list everything in it. Think of lists like Dengaroo, Bosskar, Double Falcons, Kanan-Biggs, BBBBZ, or Palp Aces. These names quickly identify a basic archetype and make for an easy, convenient reference that can easily be adopted and shared by groups across the X-Wing Community. Names like Parattani are pretty good, too, but by including a reference to a person (Old Para) and not to any particular ship in the build, it works less well (and if someone isn't in the "know," they'll never know what Parattani is about without doing some forum-digging (whereas they'd have an immediate idea of what Double Falcons or BBBBZ was generally about).
Some things go far across that line of helpful, convenient usefulness. Things like "Biggs walks the Dogs" or "Willy Wonka Bombs the Chocolate Factory with Extra Syrup" are actually unhelpful. They don't make for a shorter, more convenient way to refer to a list. They aren't particularly clear or helpful with regards to what the list contains. All they do is give someone an opportunity to try a little too hard at being clever or to create a sort of in-the-know vs. out-of-the-know group of players.

I was about to compliment some of your points until I read this line. Everyone else in this thread is having fun. Take your insulting generalizations somewhere else.

I make more lists than I play. As I get to play and tweak them I assign version numbers to variations of a theme. Except Brobots. I started with them, and Double-Iggy lists get names depending on the differing fiddly bits.

Hey, Mr. Grumpypants
Just have fun with it
People name the squads for themselves or their local playgroup. I know exactly what is in my squad called 'AMF' or 'No Fly Zone'. So in my squadmaker I can see it and know it easily rather than 'Rhymer/Omega/Omega version 3'.
Waiting for Finn to get a pilot card so I can Field "Adventure Time with Finn and Jake"

Your purpose of naming a squad may be that, but clearly it isn't everyone's purpose. Have a great day!
Names like "Rogue Squadron" and "Delta Squadron" are definitely helpful with quickly and simply explaining an archetype...

Miranda's Horny - Corran/Miranda build
My squadbuilder is teeming with in progress list ideas. They are all called.by the ships/pilots in them then a number.
It isn't until I think I've taken it where I want it that I will maybe..MAYBE put one of the silly names on it.
I have
Dormitz strikers 1,2,3,4
And when I settled on a specific setup I called it dormitz's magic missles.
I have been toying around with Fenn, Teroch and Palob. But I cannot decide on TLT or Ion turret for Palob. They both have their plusses. I was thinking with all the bombers going around, go ahead and advanced SLAM 1 Miranda...
What are your thoughts???
I got some good ones, not all competitive, but fun to fly:
"Jonus is a dual wielding pirate!" 100pt
Jonus w/ Adaptability, TIE MkII, Shuttle, Systems Off, Fleet Off
Cutlass Sqd w/ EM, Plasm, Conc, Cluster, FCS, Chips - x2
"Jonus one ups Drizzt" 100pt (particularly amusing when I found out RA Salvator is responsible for that dirty word that starts with Y)
Jonus w/ Adaptability, TIE MkII, Shuttle, Systems Off, Fleet Off
Scimatar Sqd w/ EM, Flech, Cluster, Chips - x3
"Trump Won :P" 100pt
Youngster w/ Rage
Academy - x7
I wanted to do something with Deathfire and Deathrain and make an Adele reference, but couldn't get it playable, Imp bombs are tough to build around.
