New Article: The Conflicts of Rokugan
Three posts went up at practically the same time to announce this, and all by Crane. Hm...
The Kolat had it posted before that so ![]()
I see a lot of easy bowing. And I don't say it as a good thing.
Still don't know when exactly a province is flipped up to show its value and ability.

It made me think of the Sharing Gossip card
.
The quote on the Lion's Pride Brawler card should be "B-Baka!"
.
I don't know whether they already said it, but the article states that the defender claims the ring if they win the conflict. With a card that enables an additional conflict it is theoretically possible for a player to claim the five rings.
Also it seems both Dragon and Phoenix interact with rings, witch I guess is a throwback to the enlightenment victory condition.

True. With that being said, however, I like the quote they went with. Very much a Lion thing to say.

Well, we're only seeing a few new cards, and how many different abilities can they really have?
Force Pumps/Penalties
Bowing/Unbowing
Add/Remove Fate
Remove characters altogether
I'm guessing there will be ways to unbow cards, and we can see at least one character who is immune to opponents' bowing effects while defending, so I'm not really sure why we would assume that easy bowing is a bad thing. Not to mention, there do seem to be requirements that have to be met. The Crane card requires that someone be defending alone, whereas the Lion is essentially a "Fear equal to this personality's force" effect.
I'm rather intrigued by Pacifism and Reprieve. Reprieve seems to basically be a way to spend an additional Fate on someone after you've put them into play, and Pacifism looks like it'll be interesting, but we can't really say how just yet. My guess is that its main purpose will be to prevent the opponent from forcing one of your characters into Military conflicts, but could there be other purposes?
At that cost I assume Pacifism is mainly to be used on your opponent's high military characters to stop them from doing anything useful.
So I get pacifism as a philosophy. But wtf is that attachment for? Really confused. Unless it can equip to the opponent.
Edited by Isawa SydI like how unclaimed Rings accumulating fate encourages variety in play and how the Brawler can bow people in a Political conflict based on Military skill. And Reprieve acts as a defense against discard effects, so great card for Crab.
I guess the Moto are around... *sigh*
Honoring someone seems very strong. That Shinjo Outrider can solo provinces and is filled with typical Unicorn trickiness.
I like the Phoenix/Dragon interactions with rings. Rich design space. Should be interesting.
Common to make certain things 'attachments' for game play purposes at least coming from Game of Thrones card game where certain 'states of being' are considered attachments.

Obviously, it will equip to an opponent's character. Why would you put this on your own person?

Ah! I hadn't thought of being able to play it on your opponent's characters! That would be rather handy!
I also like the forced discard from broken provinces. This means that, despite what some have claimed, there certainly is a downside of your province being broken, even if you can still produce out of it!
And of course it's nice to see that Dragon will still be focused on the Rings!

Unless it links to phx sh. Also, when do you play it? All attachments happen in conflict now...
Edited by Isawa SydWe now see the mini cards: Honor and Imperial Favor. Would also assume Dishonor.
Question I had was what if Imperial Favor bid is a tie?
If I recall correctly bowing and 'send home' were among the most common effects in old5r. I wonder whether the ability to send the opponent's personalities home will be returning. At the very least we know the Unicorn have access to the opposite trick.
A thing to have in mind is that both of these could be significantly stronger now that personalities are temporary

I spose nobody has the favor of the emperor...
I guess nobody would get it.
See mtg Pacifism....

But if someone already has it, they keep it?

Not sure. I guess it could just go to the unclaimed area with the rings or something.

Though, sending people home may be a bit dangerous, since there's the possibility they could then participate in other conflicts that turn...
