Spirit of Rebellion shortage.

By Damore, in Star Wars: Destiny

I just talked with my LFGS to find out that there is a shortage of Spirit of Rebellion, Surprising I know. The distributor cut the store's order down to only 2 boxes. So all the players at my store will be out of luck if they want a box because FFG again failed to make enough product. My store only managed to get 1 box of Awakenings Boosters, and that was in the 2nd shipment. I know they are doing 1 more printing of Awakenings, but I doubt that enough will be printed.

How on earth does FFG hope to keep the game alive, and a growing player base when they cannot make enough product for the first 2 releases? It would not be that big of a deal if they were going to continually reprint the sets, but no they wanted a limited release. I cannot understand the logic behind not making enough product for the release of a set much less have enough product to last several months. I get they didn't know the demand for the first set, but once the demand was known they should have changed the amount that was being produced for Spirit of Rebellion. I can't even purchase 1 box from my LFGS, much less 1 box a month after a set is released like I had planned to.

Spirit of Rebellion is coming out in waves similar to how awakenings was. The difference this time around is that they have "significantly increased" the production over awakenings, which was already the largest print run of a game that FFG has ever done. I dont expect the supply issues to be totally fixed with this set considering it was starting production around November. So, at the very start of this sets production the game had not blown up yet. I recommend being patient and seeing what comes of the next waves, because it is very possible that we see a huge increase in supply available as the remainder of Spirit comes out.

I wonder if some of your issue lies with your LGS's relationship with their distributor. I live in a fairly small market that saw my store get 3 boxes out of the first wave of Awakenings, not even close to filling preorders. They filled their preorders wave 3 and only ever received 3 boxes of boosters for the shelf.

My store owner already announced he would be able to fill all of his preorders for SoR on release day and have 8 boxes left over. This is a huge improvement for us locally. We will have more boxes of SoR available on day one than we have received of Awakenings so far.

I think we are seeing some scalping going on. Yes it's in waves and yes they pushed pushed up some shipments to have a May the 4 release. I know we would of liked more bit it's on it's way. If my store is getting 6 to 8 boxes and yours only 3 or 4 then I'm suspicious that they're selling them for more on eBay

@Starbane It think part of the problem is with the distributor, and the other with FFG. I have a good relationship with the store and have for years. I don't think the distributor is on top of FFG products as other distributors are. I have seen the distributor have issues with other FFG items if they didn't place their order with FFG right away. Once the distributor realizes that it does not have enough stock coming in, the distributor can't increase its order with FFG. I have also seen FFG reduce the stock being sent to the distributor if there is a high demand for a new release.

@ozmodon The store is not selling them on eBay. They didn't even get enough to fill pre-orders. They are using the stock they got to run a promo event, and have 1 box to sell boosters from.

I preordered from 4 UK different places, to hedge my bets.

3 have emailed me today to confirm product has been shipped, the other has emailed to say it can't confirm when it will be shipped.

So I'd agree with the theory that the supply problem hasn't been totally resolved, but the dealers/ distributors with a better FFG relationship are probably going to be ok.

We'll know for sure on May 4th won't we? I'm sure we'll see Amazon and Ebay listings for $20 a booster.

Another issue is stores are taking advantage of the singles market the shortage has created. Many of the games stores that also sell online are opening many (if not all) of the boosters they receive to sell as singles. One such online store isn't even hiding that fact from their customers and seems to be getting preferential treatment from FFG.

I honestly think we'll start to see the end of these shortages come June/July. This holiday season will be an important one for the game. I expect FFG to be firing on all cylinders then.

People are already selling full booster boxes on eBay for $130... not sure if they're for real, but still...

Also, my LGS already has 10 or so boxes sitting behind the counter for tomorrow. I don't think they're gonna fill all the preorders (the guy told me that I'm out of luck for example. I shoulda bribed him...) but they'll have some stock to put on shelves. I've got my fingers crossed for tomorrow. I'm guessing there's more stock, but there's also been A LOT of hype and A LOT of people wanting to buy more, so there's probably going to be just as much more demand as there is supply. I would expect similar levels of scarcity to Awakenings.

Funny how all the online game stores are promising singles starting tomorrow... yet can't fill pre-orders.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm actually not upset with stores. I'm more upset with Asmodee's small store ethics policy that is horribly backfiring.

My FLGS ordered around 80 boxes and is getting 25 for tomorrow and told by his distributor to expect another wave in 2 weeks.

Same kinda deal here I think. My game store dude told me there'd be more in two weeks or so.

Of course, FFG's style is that it'll be on the world's slowest boat that decides to go from China to the USA by going around the Horn of Africa and then gets stranded somewhere near Brazil, attacked by sharks, and then the crew mutinies and lives out the rest of their lives playing Destiny in the Bahamas with all our SoR stuff. I heard that's what happened to all the K-Wings in X-Wing.

@Kieransi Please, everyone knows Destiny is the favorite game of Somali pirates.

@Damore That is very atypical. Both game stores in my town had many boxes in each wave of Awakening and there is no storage for SoR. Sounds like your store or their distributor has some issues. I do expect wave 1 of SoR to sell out in a few days.

You're right. I was being far too optimistic as to how far the ill-fated cargo ship would make it!

Yeah, I also think it has something to do with your store or the distributer in the area. There are 3 stores in my area one is getting there entire order (10) the others both bigger are getting more.

I think that another part of the problem. Some store are getting way more stock to sell singles that what they should get.

@drunkensith Can you find out what distributors the stores are using? That way I can pass the information on to my store.

That's kind of cute ;) My FLGS, which is one of 3 sites for the shop, had more than 30 boxes preordered. I just got a call that they're delivering on less than 1/3 of my own preorder, and we have several shop owners active in our local FB group that are reporting to same. Basically nobody in the entire bay area seems to be getting enough at this point.

We'll see how well the second wave comes in. At this point I feel like we need to consider the 25th the real release date, and the 4th is just another poorly-managed prerelease event/publicity stunt.

There is a shortage for sure. I tried three stores today. One would only sell me two boosters (I came back wearing different clothes and got two more ;)), another's entire shipment was delayed, and the other didn't get anything.

FFG is really getting on my nerves with how they're handing this game. I don't like having to fight for product. Just as I predicted at the game's launch, scalpers are going to have a field day with this one.

On the plus side, I pulled a Chewie and his Bowcaster. I'll never reveal my secret for pulling the legendaries. He pulled the rest for me after that ;)

Small store locally got a total of 12 boxes, the other is getting (confirmed) around 36. We aren't a big town, but the small store owner even said he is going to be getting more Friday from a secondary distro. Starting to sound more like owners/distro thing. There is still a shortage but no where near Awakenings level.

I preordered a box and my box is at the store waiting for me for tomorrow

my store ordered 30 boxes as soon as they would allow preorders, and were only getting three delivered Friday. there is no excuse for the wave 1 not at the very least fill preorders, though I am sure the ffg loyal will find some. preorders supposed to secure you a product which is the entire point of doing it. They can not use the " preorders were low and they did not know excuse"

this is a fun game but who cares since no one can play without paying ridiculous price's from second hand sellers.

My FLGS received enough that they will sell one box to all that pre-ordered. If you wanted more than one box, you'll just have to settle for getting six packs a day until wave two comes through.

I'll be making some calls tomorrow to see if someone will sell me a box

So far I am guaranteed two boxes tomorrow. I have two different stores that have set one aside for me. I am just hoping that one of those two stores will sell me a second one once I arrive. The biggest challenge I will be facing is getting to the stores right when they open and being back in time to go to work.
