Can we raise the hammers for Dwarves please?

By Kirin, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I've talked with too many people that would buy the game if there were dwarf or orc.

With that said why couldn't this game have 8-12 factions. Look at WHFB. Sure the FotM armies that just got updates had a lot of play, but that didn't stop people from playing factions that didn't get updates for years. Say that early 2018 gives each of the 4 races 2-3 new unit options. Then late 2018 could be spent on fleshing out new factions. I wouldn't see an issue going 1-2 years without another Daqan expansion.

Daqan

Uthuk

Latari

Waiqar

Broken Plain Orcs

Dunwarr Dwarves

Dragonkin

Sounds pretty complete.

The Lore Guide mentions some kind of dark elves...

Yeah, but the Deep Elves are just the remnants of ONE tribe that almost got genocided, so I don't think they have the numbers and industry to be a major faction.

I understand, but if FFG thinks that this is a faction they need, I don't think they will/should be stopped by their existing backstory, they'll will come up with something. ;)

Well if the half-breed tries to assassinate the king and sparks off a civil war maybe we'll get dark elf units she can lead ;)

So... when dwarves come into play?

well....technically mankind didnt really advance all that much until the mid 1800s. Prior to that it was several decades before ANY advancement was discovered/taken advantage of if not longer.

Prior to the invention and common use of gunpowder, not much really could be advanced more than just refinement of old techniques, such as how to forge a sword or string a bow better than your master could.

This isn't accurate. Like, I'll not drag things deep in the weeds or whatever, but the view you're outlining here is at odds with, well, pretty much the entire discipline of history. All the intelligence you can find today existed in any period you care to name (with exceptions for mal/undernutrition impairing cognitive function...but that's not exactly unheard of today, either). And sure, their methods of investigation and practice were, uh. Not nearly as efficacious as the scientific method, but history was not static, technology was not static, warfare was not static. I'm not on a computer where I have such things handy, but if you're truly interested I can pull up accessible material (maybe even from AskHistorians or BadHistory*) later.

But as a teaser, skim the wikis for Gustavus Adolphus and Maurice of Nassau. Contrast what you read there with what you'd read about, say, Crecy or Hernan Cortes' soldiers. Consider the implications of the changes you see.

That's just the "sexy" shootykill stuff. The more "boring" fields of civilian tools, materials, and techniques also saw plenty of changes.

I'd also be cautious of overstating the pace of development over the last century. Certainly, rate of change has accelerated. But, for instance, the B-52 won't be retired until it's nearly 100 years old.

*Yes, Reddit in the main is a cesspool that ought to be purged with fire. Those historical subreddits, though? Goldmines.

I would be way more interested in the game if there would be Dwarfs or Orcs.

That's what they want you to think, but they've been plotting, and rebuilding in the shadows, and WILL SOON HAVE THEIR REVENGE!

I really have no idea, just showing how easily it could be justified as a faction :)

The units I've like best are ones I haven't seen often (carrion lancer, rune golems) so I think dwarves would be awesome.

And I think orcs are in fluff as well. I think they'd do a great job with them as well. I particularly dislike GW's orcs depicted as stupid loosers that always fail to conquer even small realms due to their stupidity.

Dwarfs you say? YES PLS!

Dwarves would be auto-buy!

Another would be dwarf player here!

Word, dwarf army day 1!

I play Dwarves in so many games, Warpath, KoW, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, even a Blood and Plunder 'short men' Pirate crew.

What are Terrinoth Dwarves like?

That said I'll buy Dwarf miniatures day one just to add to the collection.

DORFS

Steampunk Dwarves! Please tell me they do NOT travel in dirigibles gathering the silver lining from clouds. (Stupid AoS, I have NO GW dwarves in my collection)

Silver lining from a clouds haha that is hilarious
