Are the first set of expansions going to be enough to go to 200?

By rowdyoctopus, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I have 2 core sets worth of Waiqar, and one core set worth of upgrade cards after trading my Daqan to a friend. I have trouble getting past 180 on points. Essentially the list boils down to Ardus, two solo Lancers, two 2x1 archers, and two 2x2 reanimates. Sprinkle upgrades around.

Now I realize throwing in a few more trays of archers is going to get there points wise, but will the archers or cavalry be enough to start offering more variability in list building for their respective factions? Personally, I feel like I'm going to need the infantry expansions to really feel flexible.

Command unit upgrade might get you there.

The command upgrades will help a lot with making the lists stand out from each other a bit. I think the really big thing is going to be when the new heroes drop. I'm hoping enough stuff is out by November to make worlds interesting. (They haven't officially announced that runewars will have a championship at worlds, but come on.. of course they will)

If you've already got two core sets, it's the heros, Infantry Command packa, and Latari Archers that will make it feel like there's increased variety with the two current factions.

There could always be a few upgrade cards that change things up a bit in the individual expansions for the core set units but nothing that I've seen spoiled so far seems like a game changer. Fire Rune has the most potential since it gives units that don't normally have a ranged attack a way to get one. There's no reason that you guys couldn't start proxying the spoiled cards now to see if how they work out.

If you genuinely can't build more than 180 points, a single Reanimate Archers expansion can get you to 200, but you wouldn't have a lot of options in how to build that 200 points. Add in the infantry command expansion, and your options increase significantly.

I am looking forward to getting Hawthorne and the cav expansion to field an all Cav army. With the expansions and Hawthorne, the Daqan, at least, will be multi-faceted.

with 2 cores, easily enough. Two cores as it is gives you the bulk of what you need for a 200pt game, youre either using upgrades you dont really want to use to hit 200pts or sitting around 175pts.

A hero and infantry upgrade plus 2 core sets will easily get you to 200.

With the hero being around 30+, and infantry upgrade say 5+ that should get you to 200.

If you want to seal the deal get a carrion lancer expansion and your there!

I have 2 core sets of the undead and plan to get the hero, carrion lancers, and infantry upgrade expansion for the first month, then go from there.

Of that list, only the Infantry upgrades are in the first wave.

For Undead, the first wave is the Infantry upgrades and the archers.

Unless I'm using the least cost efficient formations for everything, it is not possible to get to 200 with what I have on the Waiqar. I only bought 1 core set, so I only have 1 of each upgrade contained therein.

Hawthorne won't be out for a few more months.

I know :-)

No.

It goes to eleven.

And over nine thousand.

And I'm a fan of mixing my pop-culture references.

With two core sets, you can just barely get to 208 points with Daqan, max (as far as I can tell):

208 Total points
32 Kari Wraithstalker
10 Heartseeker
6 Latari training
17 Rune Golem, single tray
17 Rune Golem, single tray
17 Oathsworn cavalry, two trays
5 Shield wall
4 Rank discipline
17 Oathsworn cavalry, two trays
5 Shield wall
4 Rank discipline
30 Spearmen, four trays
5 Shield wall
2 Metered march
30 Spearmen, four trays
5 Shield wall
2 Metered march

And with Waiquar, not quite (at 188)

Most expensive build, using all the units:
188 Total points
37 Ardus Ix'Erebrus
1 Ardus' fury
2 Ancient technique
15 Carrion lancer, single tray
4 Rank discipline
15 Carrion lancer, single tray
4 Rank discipline
18 Reanimate archers, 2 trays
5 Shield wall
4 Rank discipline
18 Reanimate archers, 2 trays
5 Shield wall
4 Rank discipline
16 Reanimates four trays
5 Terrifying heraldry
2 Metered march
5 War crier
16 Reanimates four trays
5 Terrifying heraldry
2 Metered march
5 War crier

Might not be the best armies... But that's the best I could do with what I've got!

You really, really have to proxy if you've "core-swapped" to get anywhere near 200pts.

I'm in the same situation as you, core-swapped with a friend and play Waiqar. By proxying (only core cards not future expansions), the highest I got with my Waiqar was 194 I think, but my current is 186.

Hoo boy I hope there's plenty of copies of Rank Discipline coming up in future expansions...

Why would you need 4 copies? Do you actually need the physical card...?

Clutter on the table is the bane (token) of this miniatures gamer! I eventually plan on printing out army lists so that the only thing on the table will be the figures and the dials.

For competitive play ... yes. (Most likely. We don't know for sure, but I can't imagine FFG saying you can play in tournaments without the physical components, given their rules for other games.)

If you plan on participating in FFG supported events you will almost certainly need all of the components that make up your army. If you are playing with friends then you probably won't.

I have 2 core sets of undead.

So buying 2 Acheres to run two 2x2 blocks, and running infantry also in two 2x2 blocks, a formation of two carrion lancers and Ardus that gives us a total of 180 points before upgrades and infantry expansion.

While not an ideal army it will let me field 200 pt. Army

I like this. 2 expansions of archers seems like a good bet for me as well.

You should probably grab 2 copies of the Infantry Command pack so that you can put a Deathcaller into each of those 2x2 archer units.

A 2x2 formation of Archers with Rank Discipline should always be able to get the two surges needed to generate a Blight token and then be able to use the Deathcaller to immediately turn that blight token into what amounts to either 1 or 2 mortal wounds depending on how many blue runes are up. It uses up the Blight token but it's almost like having a Worm and Archer combo that can't be interrupted.

Skipping the Rank Discipline saves some points but does make it more likely that there won't be a blight token for the Deathcaller's skill.

So very much this.

I believe I already posted army lists with two core sets that go to about 200 points for both factions. Just gotta find it!

Way back in March 2017.

Let's see about 200 points of Waiqar with two core sets

Ardus (37) with Ancient Technique (2) and Reaping Blade (4) - 43

Reanimates 2x2 (26) with War Crier* (5), Terrifying Heraldry (5) and Trumpets (2) - 38

Reanimates 2x2 (26) with War Crier (5), Terrifying Heraldry (5) and Trumpets (2) - 38

Reanimate Archers 2x1 (18) with Rank Discipline (4) - 24

Reanimate Archers 2x1 (18) with Rank Discipline (4) - 24

Carrion Lancer 2x1 (27) with Master Crafted Weapons (4) - 31

Total 198!

Note : This is someone opening 2 core sets and not sharing their upgrades. Truly evil!!!!

*-for the Waiqar v Waiqar fights

Let's do Daqan with two core sets

Kari(32) with Hearthseeker (10) and Wraithstep (1) - 43

Spearmen 3x2 (40) with War Crier(5), Shield Wall (5), Terrifying Heraldry (5), and Trumpets (2) - 57

Spearmen 2x1 (18) with Master Crafted Weapons (4) - 22

Oathsworn Cavalry 2x2 (34) with Shield Wall (5) and Terrifying Heraldry (5) - 44

Rune Golems 1x1 (17) - 17

Rune Golems 1x1 (17) - 17

Total 200!

I only have 1 of each upgrade. I didn't buy two core sets. Pulling duplicate upgrades from that list drops me down to 182.
