Big Mini for the rebels?

By Chrisael, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I love the Minis from the Jabbas Realm Box, especially the huge Rancor.

Now the Imperials have a big mini (ATST) and the Scums has one too. How about a big mini for the rebels? But what could it be? Maybe a FFG-creation? In the OT the rebels have nothing that can be a big mini. Maybe a Airspeeder from TESB but eventually its to fast for a unit in skirmishbattles.

Thematically there's not much for Rebels except maybe adding some vehicles similar to the tank. The Empire is supposed to be big and powerful and the Rebels guerilla fighters. Scum (or rather the Mercenary faction) is basically just a category for everything that isn't Rebel or Empire, rather than any kind of cohesive theme.

I guess there's Bendu, but if he took a side he wouldn't be "the one in the middle" anymore.

I could see the Rebels get 2x1 and 3x1 models like tauntaun and speederbike riders, but I don't think we'd ever get 2x2 or 3x2 with them. Even though they do have stuff like tanks, they're not very iconic at all, and don't really play to the Rebels' strengths as Neo pointed out.

If we do get something, it'd probably be in a small wave- which would be pretty cool, by the way.

Wouldn't mind something like a vehicle wave:

T4-B Tank- Rebels

Skiff (with room to "carry" troops for movement)- Scum

Imperial technician ("healer" for tanks and droids)- Imperial

Yeah, it's a little surprising we didn't get a Tauntaun rider with Hoth - though I guess their use in combat isn't really shown in the movies...

True. We also didn't get a Bantha Rider with Twin Shadows, which is why I think these things could still work in small waves.

I think FFG missed the opportunity to make Oona a different base size - the rules and character flavour definitely lend themselves to a larger model (not that I think aqualishes should be larger than humanoid)

Could speeder bikes work nicely as a neutral upgrade, allowing any faction to access them? Can't ever envisage separate models for both rebels and empire, but would seem a wasted opportunity not to allow them for both.

(and scum while we're at it!)

I thought it would be neat if they made the Ewoks a 'swarm' and put 3 on one Nexu Sized base like the Riot Mob in MOM 2nd all attached to one deployment card, but then it would be tough to move them around the board.. and for other reasons it just wouldn't work. I really have no idea what they could do for a large Rebel figure, if they ever plan to do anything.. but it would be nice to see.

Ewok catapult!

What about Ja Ja riding that creature into battle? We'd all love to see that, right? ?

Nope, I've got it. What about that ridiculously slow people transporter they always seem to use to get x wing pilots to their ships? As in, it moves slower than walking, would offer no protection, and has no arms. Perfect ?

They should just give the Rebels the Millennium Falcon, and then we can just play the theme music and the whole mission is just flying it around the basement making the sound effects with our mouths.

I know we've already had at least one mission inside the Falcon, but I'd love for more dedicated map tiles for missions inside it.

You know, I actually thought about buying an old falcon toy recently, and turning it into part of a skirmish map. If memory is correct you could probably put a nice piece of hex Perspex in the main cabin that might work well.

obviously you'd have trouble flying it around making sound effects. Maybe you could sellotape down your beautifully painted models?

Which mission is this?

Imperial Entanglements, Han Solo ally pack.

Well if they have stromtroopers with jet packs, why not the ewok hang glider. Should be a melee unit with a lot of movement points.

I was working on that for a while, making a detailed M Falcon map, but lost my motivation.

You can see the start of it at the bottom of this link.

Frankly I don't like big minis on this scale. It works sometimes for campaign, but it is just too crowded for most skirmish maps. The IA map sizes are not good for anything fast, and it is clunky to move these pieces around.

What about a stationary Ewok tree house? Doesn't move at all, but special actions include turret fire, rock-throwing. Limit one per army.

Maybe that log-to-the-head trick for any massive figure to deal 50% of remaining damage, rounded up...

I'd love to paint something like that...

I'm still waiting for the mouse droid companion. Has 'Distracting' and only Chewie can 'push' it up to 10 spaces away...

I've thought of stuff like that (specifically, turbolaser turrets for the Empire) but the problem is that it would be awkward on many maps.

See, for a game called "Imperial Assault", it's often the Rebels doing the assaulting. It would be kind of awkward to have an Ewok treehouse basically located inside of an Imperial base. Same goes for when the Rebels are on the defense- how could the Imperials construct a turbolaser so fast?

Blast it! My ideas ruined by theme lawyering! Agreed, it would get weird.

It would work in campaign tho - using 'habitat'... :)

What about the Gargantuan Battle Platform and a Garm Bel Iblis hero?

I see large mini's in the form of alliance aliens. In another thread, we talked about 2x1 Hero's and I thought that a Basilisk like in the Battlefront Twilight company novel would be awesome. If they go Rogue, they could include Saw's people as either rebels or mercs, in either case the big white hairy alien (technically a Gigoran) would be cool.

It would be an interesting twist to give the Rebels the biggest mech in the game, but that looks far too big to fit on most maps, if any.
