Assigning Damage to Assets

By Teivovo, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Hi everyone, I know that there is a lot of posts regarding the same topic but I still have a question that I don't understand.

Let's say I have an asset in play that is able to soak up 2 damage and 2 horror.

I get damaged for 2 damage and I assign it to the asset.

Does the asset then get discarded or can I keep it there to absorb 2 more horrors?

Thanks in advance everyone!

From the rules reference under Dealing Damage/Horror

"After applying damage/horror, if an asset has damage equal to or higher than its health or horror equal to or higher than its sanity, it is defeated and placed in its owner’s discard pile."

Note that it says or, so one or the other will get rid of the asset. However if an attack, say, did 2 damage and 2 horror, you could assign it all at once to the asset and it would soak it all. My recommendation if you can get away with it: assign one to you, one to the asset, so you can still take advantage of the other health later. Giving it one damage now, then two horror later is often better than just two damage now, depending on the situation.
