Exploreter background

By Erich4, in Rogue Trader

Since I'm not all that familer with the lore of Techpriests (I've mostly been reading the Gaunt's Ghosts stuff), I was wondering about a background path i'm thinking about. Would it be appropreate for an Exploreter to take Child of the Creed and Zelot? Or would the backgrounds need to be altered?

Thanks

Child of The Creed sshould fit after a few word substitutions:

- God-Emperor -> Ommisiah

- white-haired clerics -> Replace this with an appropriate ad-mech title

Zealot is similar, except that the Favoured of the Faithful option seems like it wouldn't fit.

So it could work, but the character wouldn't be a typical Explorator. Which may be part of the reason why the characters serves on a Rogue Trader ship instead of an Explorator vessel.

Child of Creed and Zealot shouldn't pose no problem for an explorator. Your character probably has been raised by tech-priest and been indoctrinated with the believe into the omniseer. So it's no wonder your character is quite a zealot when it comes to his believes in the machinegod.

Yeah,

I kinda figured they would work with some word changes. I was just currious what the general opinion was.

I was fiddling around with similar ideas last night about making it go the other way towards being a reclividist and press gang just to get some interesting skills on the character to break with tradition (Concealment, Charm and Comm Lore- Underworld) which makes it something of an orphan, hive world scoundrel that got caught one too many times and basically shipped off to an ad-mech facility. BS'ed its way into the cult, got some implants, the emperor's voice in my head tells me to keep stealin! (ok so its a good quality cortex implant on a hymn tape loop I haven't figured out how to turn off, but hey) ...10,000 light years and running! Actually came together as a competent character with a good charisma stat.

Aside from that I couldn't really figure out much else to make the explorator very interesting as a class unless they're a bit crooked. I suppose there is the existing one in our group who's kind of interesting but he's on an express slippery slide of damnation and the GM is just waiting for one too many in-character references to chaos as a joke...

Tech priests can be every bit a as zealous as an Imperial Cleric. They just are more concerned with using technology in a rightous fashion. I'd get the book Titianicus to help you get in the tech priest state of mind. Mechanicum is also a good book to read as well.
