Good luck to all of you at Worlds!

Congrats to everyone.. but what is the washer innovation? Is that the board with all the fighter health dials on it?

It's a simple, but elegant solution to Squadron movement and placement. You buy washers from the hardware store about the same size as the squadron base. When you play, you put them under the squadron. When you go to move a squadron, you place a new washer down where you want the squad to go, move the squad, and then remove the old washer. If you need to change the health or activation of the squad, you can pick it up and the washer holds the spot. They're heavy enough to hold in place under almost all circumstances. It's an awesome, simple, and super cheap method. I picked it up from Brendon at the Stele Open. Haven't looked back since.

It sounds a great solution... and yet it was reprimanded at Worlds? Under "using a second tool" im guessing?

Full congrats to Norm and also the others from the Toronto group for their very strong showing, even inspite of being matched against each other in at least two games!

I will say though, Kristjan, it can hardly be fair to give all credit for the list build to the Toronto group; after all it was very very similar to Justin's list from last worlds, mainly with CC additions.

Claiming creation was not my intention, only that the build the guys here settled on was incredibly tough to take on. I gave up trying months ago with my Imperials. This seems to be the experience everywhere given this years top lists.

Call judge on slow play? At th at point it is to me slow play at that level. They should not be forced to play fast and loose bit at the same time they should not be taking a chunk of time from the game to be perfect.

As a Rieekan aces player, I agree. But, to be fair to Rieekan Aces, my opponents with 5+ activations and virtually no squads also took a long time in their maneuvering. And deciding which ships to activate. Pondering for at least 5 minutes per activation before deciding at times. I know because I watched the clock.

But in all except one of my matches (because I was doing the potty dance), I gave them the same latitude they gave me. And to help speed up some decisions, I would measure some distances from my squadrons to their maneuver tools to help them see what maneuvers would work best for them. And for those with squadrons, I'd do the same when they moved squadrons, and they did the same for me. That sped things up a bit. Mutually agreeing to to help each other reach the intended position, if one was possible, thus bypassing the "two tools" rule because we each only used one tool at a time.

So, IMHO, Rieekan Aces players should be willing to accommodate their opponents, if they are also going to take their sweet time in the squadron phase. Otherwise, I say call them on slow play at that level of play. And when it's Rieekan V Rieekan... well that just sucks. I barely made it to round 4 in my one Rieekan match, and we were both playing slow. It was mutual.

Naw, Nathan just slocks washers under his fighter bases that are roughly the size of the recess, so when he picks up a fighter, the washer marks the location.

No, it sounds like quite the opposite. By "sanctioned" I think he meant the player was not told to stop doing it by FFG. If you do it at Worlds, you can do it anywhere as far as I'm concerned. It's a good way to speed up movement and placement and FFG is pretty laid back about these kinds of things. If it makes the game play easier, then why the hell not?

I read sanctioned the other way :D This is good, will start using it my end!

Yeah, same here. Anything to speed up squadron play.

What size washers are used? Anybody know?

The washers have 1.125" outer diameter.

I missed the final match live. Does anyone have a link to the video?

Us imp players are indeed hurting a bit right now. We need some variety of imperial dawn... yeah.

For UK folk, i reckon a 2 or 10 pence piece could suffice here

Any one have the final lists??

Wait, so this was allowed at Worlds (after the single tool clarification a couple months ago)?

From what I understand, it basically boils down to:

The Opponents of said mechanic did not question it.

Ergo, the Judge did not step in, remaining a Spectator until such time as there was a Clarification or ruling request.

Think of them as non-FFG acrylic rulers. You can be that guy that complains and could get a judge to ban them for your game, if you really wanted to be that guy.

And then labeled and ridiculed from the next event and then the next. It seems gamers are just as harsh as everyone else.
