Scyk Protectors.

By Vastoom, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have had some moderate luck with this build recently.

Fen Rau and Old Teroch

Fearlessness, Concord Dawn Protector, Stealth Device

Serissu

PTL, EU, Heavy Scyk, Heavy Laser Cannon.

Its gone 3 for 3 so far but I feel that there are ways to improve upon it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I too have tried those protectorates with fearlessness and have found it encourages some risky maneuvering on your part, putting you where you'd really not wanna be. I've found attani to be a better ept, add attani to serious well. That way she can have focus perform evade and potentially live longer. And without fearlessness, you won't be encouraged to throw your flimsy ships in front of arcs so much. Sure they throw buckets of dice, but we all know that greens go ice cold at the worst times lol

I had heard people saying that Fearlessness was a trap. I don't however have mindlink.

This seems like it'll be way too vulnerable to bombs to stand much chance in today's competitive meta.

The one Protectorate pilot that really vibes with Fearlessness is Old Teroch. He wants to be looking them right in the eyes to mug the badguy's tokens. That said, EPT is an extremely competitive slot.

Autothrusters are cheaper and more useful than Stealth Devices. Much, much more useful, at a point cheaper. I stress this: Autothrusters are better. (For real.)

What expansions do you have access to, Vastoom?

Autothrusters on the protectorates, probably. Serissu in the Scyk doesn't have boost, so is stuck with stealth device.

That is why Serssiu is in there instead of the cheaper Scyk. Her ability to allow a friendly ship at r1 to reroll 1 die is helpful. It does leave all my ships in a cluster at r1 and as previously stated vulnerable to bombs. However the ability to focus fire and toss 13 dice plus 2 guaranteed hit results and Teroch taking focus and evade tokens away (in a perfect world) is tempting.

I have both core sets, Falcon, Outrider, 2 Ig2000's, Upsilon, U wing, Firespray, Imperial Vets, Imperial Aces, Rebel Aces, Most Wanted, T 70, Tie fighter, 2 Protecors, Scyc, Starviper, b wing, Special forces Tie, ARC, Tie ADV, Tie interceptor, E wing, Z95, Tie Defender, Tie Phantom, Tie Punisher,

Vastoom, If I've read correctly you've only played 3 games. You should play a few more games, get a feel for the types of lists you'll play against and how to fly against them. Then if they're still losing change it up a bit. Personally i think it's a great list. Hope this helps.

It has been 3 games so far but its won all three. I was looking for some outside my local groups opinions on it. Thanks though I really like it too so far.

3 GAMES! well it's definitely a respectable list.

do you have any tips for playing outside your friend group and moving toward store play?

Haha that's why I posted here. I haven't played against a "good" bomber yet. The on list that did use bombs flew his bomber straight in to try and lay them down quick but suffered the full onslaught of the list. As long as I focused one target at a time things worked out.

This would be my take on your list:

Fenn Rau (28)
Push the Limit (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Old Teroch (26)
Fearlessness (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Concord Dawn Protector (1)

Serissu (20)
Expose (4)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Stealth Device (3)
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Cannon) (2)

Total: 100

It keeps the same theme and flavor I think, but with a more balanced approach. Fearlessness can be a trap, but it fits well on Teroch. I wouldn't risk it with Fenn because he's your closer, and he hits plenty hard while arc-dodging.

If you switch the stealth devices for autothrusters, you'll get an upgrade that always works, even after you start getting hit. It'll also help you survive the opening engagement as you'll have a method of correcting bad dice. The first time I rolled 7 greens and had an evade, I still took damage 1 damage.

I'd go with stealth device on serissu because, with an HLC, he's rarely needing to close the distance quickly. More often he'll want to barrel roll back to try to stay at range 3. If you engage at range 3 you're leveraging the power of your HLC and minimizing their counter-punch. With Expose, he'll have built in offense so he can use his tokens defensively and hopefully keep that stealth intact a little longer.

You could try ditching Serrisu and adding in a couple of Quadjumpers

Jakku Gunrunner + Pattern Analyser + Spacetug Tractor Array + Intelligence Agent = 20pts

You'd need to shed a few points on the protectorates but if you use the QJs well they can really support the protectorates in a joust by removing your opponents agility and repositioning them in unfavourable places with the Tractor Arrays.

I kinda like the Scyks, but how often is Serrisu in range one of the others in this list??? I would think her only advantage is the PS. Anyway, is there a way to drop Serrisu? If it was me, I think I would try to sqeeze in a BumpMaster instead. Just my thoughts. If its working, keep running it till it fails.

Had another match with this one the other day against a tie swarm featuring Vader, Mauler, Scourge, Dark Curse, and a Saber sq pilot. No upgrades. I was a little concerned with the number of ships he put in the field but managed to pick them off one by one. Keeping the group together is key, when not facing a bomber, Having Serrisu stay behind the protectors so I can continue to utilize the HLC and the defensive reroll that allowed the stealth devices to stay in play for the majority of the game. It ended in a win but after I took out most of his ships and left him with the Saber he used that one ship to destroy the undamaged Serrisu and Fen Rau and brought Old Teroch down to one. Thats one of the things I love about this game, its never over till its over. haha
