Painting skin or painting bone: Which is the bigger PITA?

By WWHSD, in Runewars Painting and Modeling

I've been waffling back and forth over which faction I'd like to more forward with. Gameplaywise I'm at an impasse so I figured I should probably look to something else that may make a consierable difference in my enjoyment of this game.

Which is a bigger pain in the ass to paint: bone or skin?

Just based on the core set I'm leaning towards bone being worse but I then I realized that other than a little bit of face poking out of helmets there wasn't really much skin that needed painting. The skeletons had tons of exposed bone on legs and arms that was tedious to paint while the humans were pretty much "prime it, put a skin-like color on the face (and a chunk of helmet near the face) paint some shiny armor, splash some color on a couple of things that look like cloth, done".

If I was basing my faction decision solely on ease of painting should I go with Humans, Undead, or Elves? Is one of those going to way easier or way tougher to paint?

Personally I'd say skin - but only by a bit, and the key thing is that there's more bone visible on the Waiqar, than skin on the Daqan.

I just finished my first Reanimates -

And I didn't find their bone particularly bothersome, even after a Silver primer. It was 2 coats of Screaming Skull, Agrax Earthshade Wash and then highlights on the skull with Scream Skull.

Wow tried to respond here but I have been having weird bugs where it signs me out when switching parts on these forums.

Either way The problem with painting bone is that it's usually a very bright colour with highlights of white. It can often lose a bit of it's bright colour after a day while it dries, it's very noticible if you spill some brown or red on it. Not the same with diffirent flesh tones. In my experience

I do myself prefer painting skeletons because of the face. It's eaiser to get a cool glow effect in the big eye holes and paint the rest in bone. However painting a face with eyes mouth is a pain IMO. Some people paint good faces but I'm terrible at it and think it's one of the harder things to paint.

Either way it's a pain to paing. I prefet to paint orks, really really green orks. Then it's easy :P

I primed my reanimates white and didn't bother painting the bones, worked out well enough for me.

I have painted all of both armies and i found the humans waaaay harder to paint and much much more time consuming due to the gold outlines on all the models. The difference between skin and bone wasn't that big of a deal. If you decided not to outline the gold on the human armor then it's probably the same painting overall.

Personally bone is way way easier to paint. Flesh has a plethora of faint color tone changes and highlights, alot more than people tend to realize, while bone is pretty much just different shades of pale tan or white for lighting effects.

Fortunately the skin isnt that bad on the humans in this game since theyre mostly covered by the helmet. Im not even painting their eyes since you can only see it from a specific angle anyway.
