Prediction - Will there be a clone wars box?

If FFG does'nt do a Rogue One box or blisters with the characters, I'll be very disappointed. That movie was a Imperial Assault campaign. I don't know what they waiting for, it technically takes place during the OT, so I don't see the issue.

Well super technically, it takes place just before the OT, but I get your point. I expect the biggest obstacle for someone making a Rogue One box would be finding things to overlap with the movie, but not so much they contradict the movie.

Timelines clearly don't matter to FFG anymore, but who knows what the nuances of the license are. The "true" OT and Clone Wars may be all they are allowed to do anything with in terms of character development.

I don't know if its so much of an issue of "waiting" as much as "stuck coming down the pipe". There's a lot of Star Wars stuff during the OT now. They may well get to it, but it's not like we're coming up empty handed as it is.

I doubt it's a license issue. Destiny, LCG, and X-wing all play with much broader timeframes than the OT so it's probably not a matter of legal restriction. At present, it's just because 90% of the figures in IA are OT and so they stick to that timeframe for continuity. I think we'll see an episode VII-IX new core box one of these days but I'm not in a hurry, I like what we're getting with the OT era stuff right now. I doubt that they'll reach back to clone wars era due to lower popularity of this stuff, but if they stick with IA long enough who knows.

I think it's a bit of a mix, really.

FFG knows the OT is more favorably looked upon right now, so that's what they started with. Now that that's where the got their foot in the door, of course they're gonna stay in that area for a while now. It'd be silly to jump back and forth between OT and PT constantly. X-Wing might be able to manage that (and you can see them starting to branch out a little already with the ARC-170 and Wookie Copter) but IA is a little more strict in its theme.

One thing I think we underestimate is the rules that may come into play as soon as you introduce characters and have them start doing stuff. Destiny, X-wing, Armada, and LCG pretty much just have the ships and some character faces slapped on them. IA is the only one that is telling new stories in the Star Wars universe.

I'm not saying the license is dictating every game decision they make, but it does seem like there may be a connection between FFG abandoning the timeline issue, and also incorporating elements from Rebels and the comics. Before Jabba's Realm, the only non OT references were the Nexu and HK droids. Not exactly headlining characters that go off on their own adventures.

I predict that when they eventually come out with the Star Wars version of Rune Wars, it will be Clone Wars themed.

I think FFG has completely saturated the OT board game market at this point, yet the huge market of prequel loving millinials is almost completely untapped (Destiny has dipped its toe in), and if FFG wants to release another tentpole Star Wars game, they'll have to start tapping the prequel fans.

I'd be down for that. That, or maybe even something like Battlelore. Either would be a much better fit that IA- or Rebellion. A lot of people want Rebellion, but I don't think the cat and mouse gameplay quite fits the Clone War either.

I think with the new StarWars Battlefront the chances for a clonewars box rises dramatically. ; )

I don't Think so. The clone wars was more about large armies of clones and droids facing off against each other. I would really like to a version of the Rune Wars miniature game redone as a Clone Wars game.

Certainly on the surface the majority of the War were large land and space battles. That said, even the OT was rife with Major battles that hardly lend themselves to the scale of IA.

I think that a campaign set in this time period could easily be done, with a focus on smaller "strike force" style missions. Just because it's set during a war, doesn't mean all the missions have to be big battles.

Many moments from the CW show in particular are focused on a handful of specialists dealing with a particular problems in a mission.

A RuneWars game with CloneWars-Minis will be nice too. I only want the minis! ; D

So, rumors about a possible miniatures game coming, being discussed on the Armada forums:

I get that the GCW might be more popular now, but this (if true) seems like a really missed opportunity to bring the Clone Wars to the table in a way that would actually make a lot of sense. Also, when I think of Empire v Rebellion, I usually don't think of large scale, even ground wars. Droids v Clones, absolutely, though.

There is nothing in that blurb that suggests 'large scale' warfare. It mentions 'epic warfare', but 'epic' is a word that is so devoid of any meaning in this day and age you could simply replace it with 'cool' in every instance you see. In fact, the inclusion of heroes suggests that the scale of conflict portrayed will be quite tame.
