So when the C-roc comes out there will be a sideboard mechanic for Scum. Now there are some things that have to be clarified (such as do tokens remain when related upgrades is discarded) but for the most part we can safely assume that it is now expected to bring a side board. However this mechanic can still open up possibilities for the other factions and other upgrade cards to be sideboarded.

So far the only faction with side boards is scum. So Scum has two sideboard upgrades both in the <crew> slot.

So theorizing potential sideboard upgrade cards and which slots could become a sideboard. Right now just thinking on theme.

For Rebels I could see them having a sideboard mechanic for an Astromech. Well it could also be the Astromech. Here is a theoretical astromech.

• Chopper <astromech> Cost 3 points. You may discard this card to replace any friendly <astromech> or <salvaged astromech> at range 1 with another upgrade card of the same type of equal or fewer squad points that cost no more than 3 squad points.

So a unique upgrade card that can only be used once but allows you to swap out any astromech card. However it doesn't allow you to pull a surprise R2-D2 since it cost 4.

Imperials are both the easiest and hardest to think of. So here we go. For them the best sideboard will be crew of course. But there is one small problem we already have a Darth Vader <crew> upgrade card . So well we could make a Lord Vader and call it the same, or we could get a little crafty. There was one charachter present for each of the chokings that resulted in a dead Imperial officer. Admiral Piett .

• Admiral Piett <crew> Cost 2 points You may discard this card to replace a friendly <crew> card you have equiped of equal or fewer points.

I put the point costs as well a balance issue because of the extra flexibility those upgrades have. Ciktro Vizago can get away with this since illicits are designed with somewhat of a shelf life. The other upgrade slots are reusable with the exception of torpedoes and missiles and certain EPTS.

So what do you think will make a good sideboard and for what faction?

I'm not sure I like this style of thinking, the idea that all factions have to have access to the same abilities whether that's turrets as of the recent wave or the new scum regen from the C-Roc. Do te other factions need a sideboard mechanic? the factions should have mechanics and abilities that are unique to them and while we do have some of that now (mindlink etc) would more uniqueness among the factions be that bad?

I agree, here. Personally, I think having a sideboard is fiddly. Not much space around the play area as is, they wanna choke it further with this? No, thanks.

Saying that, diversity keeps the spice flowing. Rebels will be rebels, a few may be scum, but they aren't villains (unless it's Cassian), and they certainly aren't Imps; don't mix peas and carrots.

Thing is we now have sideboards once the C-roc is out, so there is no stopping them from coming. But as for diversity the idea is that the factions have different areas for sideboards that are also limited. Imperials have only have a few ships with 2 <crew> slots and Rebels only have a few ships with astromech. I doubt it would choke the play space, it may open up so players take some of the less used upgrades as they don't pose as much of a risk in the meta game. The play space is choked in stats, dials, elite pilot talents, and actions. The upgrades not so much.
