Grisly contest vs slippery smuggler

By brettpkelly, in Imperial Assault Rules Questions

If a brawler attacks an adjacent alliance smuggler and doesn't kill him, can he play Grisly contest to finish him off or does slippery trigger first allowing the smuggler to move away? Grisly says "use during your activation" and slippery says "after an attack targeting you resolves". I assume you can't use Grisly in the middle of your attack, but can you use it after the attack resolves before the smuggler spends the movement points he gained? I'm torn because those points must be spent immediately, but maybe you can play "Grisly Contest" immediately after the attack resolves causing a timing conflict that the (edit) player with initiative (/edit) would win, causing grisly to go before slippery. I am leaning towards slippery triggers and there is no opportunity to play Grisly.

The "active player" never inherently wins a timing conflict as far as I'm aware. The Attacker's abilities resolve first during attacks, and the player with initiative resolves first outside of attacks.

I believe this is correct. I'll be honest, I always forget if "after an attack resolves" is still considered part of the attack timing window for the purpose of timing conflicts, but I always viewed it as meaning after the attack and before anything has a chance to occur. If I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time though.

After-attack-resolves abilities trigger and are resolved before performing-an-attack ends, before an Attack action ends. Only after that you can use during your activation abilities (they cannot be performed while resolving an action).
