Point levels for multiplayer scenario

By Chivenger, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Having some friends over for a low-key game of X-wing. Was thinking it might be fun to run a variation on a scenario I ran for another game.

Each player brings three ships at different build totals. First ship under a set point cost, Second a build total a little higher, Third a build total more than the other two. Each player starts with their first ship. If that is destroyed, they launch their second ship from either a random or chosen side of the map. Then if the second ship is removed, launch your third ship.

Not being that experienced a player, my first thought was 20 points, then 30, and a 50 point ship last. Save the big bases and unique pilots and crew until the last ship.

Or are there better point totals that would be more fun. The idea is that if you get knocked early, you have an advantage over the other players.

If there is a better forum for this Topic, I would be happy to move it.

I think that sounds pretty fun. I like it.

My favorite multiplayer is a mission done by @Babaganoosh on Mission Control called "Honor Among Thieves". It's got an interesting dynamic.

My Wednesday group does something similar to this pretty regularly, either three or four players most of the time. It is very entertaining. 20/30/50 is fine, although the 20 can sometimes be a bit rough - it is a *very* limiting number in terms of what ships are actually available. Give it a go, but also consider 25/40/55. 55 is a pretty sweet spot for large base ships (if you are allowing them), and also allows for some interesting 2-ship builds.

One option that is especially good for having so few ships on the board is to increase the number of obstacles in play - it's good to have nine or more. We've gone as high as fifteen, which is absolutely nuts. When you get to those numbers, obstacles should be placed anywhere on the board, right up to the edges. It makes things very challenging.

If you run an even number of players, I would suggest teams. Helps reduce feelings of being ganged-up upon. If there are odd numbers of players...well, we're still working on the best way to do that. Ha ha.

For point limits I've flown a similar Aces match with the limits at 25 for the first ship and 35 for the second or you could take a single fifty point large base ship and nothing else. As for asteroids on a 3x3 we had two asteroids a player.

For a three round match if you want named pilots I'd suggest 15-25-35 or a single 60 point large or even the 15 and then a 50 point large if you want to include that. Or you could just take whatever at whatever price point without the size restrictions ;)

15 points means Ties, A wing, Scyks and whatever else they can field.

25 points means Omega Leader, or a baby blue, either a low PS good ship or a high PS weaker ship

35 points means that almost any choice pilot is available and some buffed up ships

50 point large + first 15 means that they lose 5'points of value for something like Rey+Finn or a VCX-100 with some crew.

60 point large base: an extremely risky option here, means they lose 10 points if value total however they can build some crazy stuff

bwst of luck, let us know your results :)
