Question on second chance.

By DJRAZZ, in Star Wars: Destiny

Let's say I have a yellow character with 10 health and he/she has 9 damage on them. This character has second chance on them. My opponent deals 6 damage to the character. Does that mean that second chance cannot save them?

No. Second Chance clears all damage when the character is (isn't) defeated. They will always end up on 5 health after Second Chance resolves.

However if the damage is caused by multiple dice, you can split the damage - e.g. if you had 1 damage, 2 damage and a +3 damage, you can deal the one, Second Chance triggers, and then deal the remaining 5 to kill them.

Thank-you!

I'd phrase this differently, for clarity.

When you resolve dice (including damage dice) you resolve them one at a time, unless there are modifiers. You can't split damage (e.g. the 2 and +3 is 5 damage that has to go to a single target) but you can resolve each die against a different target.

A lot of people tend to shorthand "I deal 9 damage", but in reality it's "I resolve the 1 damage. I resolve the 2 and +3 for 5 damage. I resolve..."

Also, worth remembering if you are playing with Count Dokoo.

Let's say in a hypothetical scenario you have two copies on the same character. Would they then both resolve giving the character 10 health back?

No. Because two characters can't be defeated at the same time.

No, because Second Chance is a replacement effect. When one of them resolves, its effect substitutes the trigger (being defeated) and no abilities can be triggered by it again, since its like it never have happened

Don't forget to use Second Chance together with Ammo Belt!
