Are these upgrade cards legit?

By TheHumanHydra, in X-Wing

Hey all,

I found a really good deal on certain upgrade cards on eBay. Here are some of the listings:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Veteran-Instincts-x3-Promo-Card-Star-Wars-X-Wing-Miniature-Game-/302230824444?hash=item465e5c65fc:g:whwAAOSwv~xXDlvB

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gunner-x3-Promo-Card-Star-Wars-X-Wing-Miniature-Game-/371910765035?hash=item56979be9eb:g:YFsAAOSwKtVWz125

As you can see, they are for sets of three unplayed Veteran Instincts or Gunner promo cards, and they cost less than what one of those cards would from another vendor. (He also has the new Tactician promo for sale; I wasn't sure if it was available yet or not.) Can this possibly be real?

I know there are fan-made alt-art cards handed out at tournaments or sold online. Do you think these might just be forgeries?

If these are real, I'll jump all over them; it would save me much headache from trying to obtain all the ships these cards come in or build lists around them. But I don't want to show up at a tournament with counterfeit cards.

There might not be any way to tell without buying them (or even afterward), but I'm still interested in your opinions.

I can't tell you fir sure if these specific cards are real, but those cards were printed with that alt art as promos. So they certainly can be real.

Those are the official artwork for the alt art versions of VI and Gunner FFG put out. Whether they are print outs are unknown from the picture, but the art is definitely genuine.

Sorry, I should have clarified: I know the art is legit, I'm just wondering if there are some telltale signs of a fake I've missed, if anyone has any experience with counterfeits, or simply if you think anyone would actually sell the real cards for that price. Thank you for the responses so far. :)

Ah, my apologies. I misunderstood. Sadly, I have no expertise in spotting fakes. On an encouraging note, however, I personally have about 3 or 4 of those alt art cards myself from the different kit tournaments I played, so it is likely that a prolific player could amass a large number of those alt art cards, and wish to sell them off. Heck, our local organizer still has stacks of alt art cards that we got too many of. He uses them as extra prize support for torunamanets.

They look real to me.

They aren't too far outside the norm for prices either it looks like, and the seller has a high rating so I'm betting on legit. I ordered an alt-art tactician from them.

As Sabine said, someone that can go to many places to play can get a bunch .. think I have about 8 ptl, and my buddy and I played in a couple store champs last year, plus league nights mean I have 6 C3PO cards

And those do look legit ..

Ok, thanks, everyone. I think I'll order some, too.

(Counterfeiting is actually a thing in Magic: The Gathering, hence my suspicion, I suppose!)

You could always ask him directly? He can't lie if he doesn't want to get reported and potentially lose his account.
