The maiden voyage of Scharnhorst and Gneisenau's tournament refit is scheduled for this evening at 7pm Eastern, 6 Central, 0000 GMT, sortieing against @pt106's Motti cruiser squadron.
Vassal Summer Tourney 2017 - Round 1
And, in an even less ignominous showing than their actual maiden voyages, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau fall to the cruisers 9-2 (305 - 45) in my Blockade Run. Not terribly bloody opening, but as per usual, flotillas are hilariously vulnerable to ramming, and the twin battleships failed to corral the cruisers and destroyers circling them. Scharnhorst (Liberty) escaped the carnage, but Gneisenau (Mon Karren) was destroyed in a Turn 6 effort by the Decimators, swinging the tide of battle massively. Great game with @pt106, whose posts I will now read in his Russian accent. Удачи, товарищ.

The "blue dice rolling orgy" from MattShadowlord and Tokra is over.
We were playing my Fighter Ambush.
The end result was: 63 vs. 399 (150 points in victory tokens) in favor for Tokra.
So 10-1 and a MOV of 336.
It was the first time i really played the fighter ambush. And i have to say: it is insane with this many fighters (AND with Sloane).
I was busy with Matts squadrons in the first two rounds (as he was with mine). Lost 3 Tie Fighter, but was able to kill all his squadrons in the process. After this, the game was maybe a bit boring for Matt. The blue dice hell was hammering the Mark IIs. even when the repair commands were a bit annoying (for me
). The Flak did the best to decimate the Ties, but he was not able to. I tried to avoid the double arc of the flak as much as possible.
But he was moving really great with the big shrimps, and was really often able to get two Gozanti into range, but the dice rolling luck was not with him. In Average the damage was way to low. In the end he was only able to kill the Gozanti with Tua and ECM. But with average rolls, he would have killed at least 1-2 more.
Especially when i made one really stupid move in Round 4. For some reasons i thought i am player 1 (call it tired, call it blind, whatever). So i moved the Demo into range of one Mark II and "thought" i will move out again at the start of the next round. Well, Matt got a broadside shot on the Demo, who lost already all his shields. So 5 Hull and a brace token vs. 5 red dice (+ Dual Turbolaser Turret) and 1 blue die.
I should have deserved a dead Demo after this stupid move. But even for this the luck was not with him. 1 ACC and 2 hits + 1 Crit were not enough.
So thanks again to Matt for the great game.
Sadly i have only a VLog from the first day. For the first 3 rounds. But i saved the game on Round 6 as well.
But after the 3rd round it was a bit simple what both player were doing. So with a look at the end, it is see how the last 3 rounds went. Will upload them later.
@Matt Antilles
Can you play Tonight (Sunday), Monday, or Tuesday Night, I'm flexible.
Sometimes this @ is not working so well...
THE BATTLE OF THE LEIAS
@ManInTheBox Vs. @Maturin
A close fought game with myself taking the victory for 155 Vs. 214. A 6-5 (one point short of a 7-4).
Maturin brought a Yavaris/double Pelta/Jaina's Light list with 3 VCXs and a handful of E-Wings, Vs my 5 x TRC90 list with Shara, Tycho and a VCX pushed by a Transport.
I took Initiative and we played his Targeting Beacons. All the obstacles were piled on the right hand side. Maturin's force deployed as a blob, behind the obstacles. I split mine into two groups to pincer attack. Unfortunately I deployed too wide so the game played out in two phases as each of the attack groups made enemy contact on turn 2-3 and turn 6.
Early exchanges of fire yielded some damage on the Yavaris flagship and a couple of TRC-90s but no casualties. Meanwhile Shara and Tycho caught up to the flight with their Jamming field escort to lock down the enemy fighter blob. A combination of jamming field and unlucky rolls from Maturin kept Shara alive most of the game, soaking shot after shot. A few of his fighters were loose to take shots on ships but the damage was limited.
Eventually, his Jaina's light and a couple of squads took down one TRC90 whilst Yavaris and a pelt punched out of the other side of the fight. After some handbrake turn maneouvring, the remaining group of 3 TRC-90s cornered the breakaway Yavaris/Pelta group on turn 6 and focus fired them both down, finishing the Pelta with a ram. In the process, however, I managed to maneouver the very corner of a TRC-90 off the board with a few pixels overhanging. Bright hope eventually succumbed to focus fire and died as Tych and my VCX cleaned up more of Maturin's squads, for a total of four killed to one Shara.
Great game with a great opponent and a helpful crowd of observers. Thanks to @Tokra and @Irishmadcat for pointing out some rule mistakes we made.
My opinion on Leia is that she really shone with this list. I was able to pull the sharpest, tightest maneouvres with Nav-teams (add two extra clicks), lay down more damage with a concentrate fire and repair more effectively, getting rid of damage cards if need be. A GR75 can push 3 squads with no further upgrades. Leia certainly requires a little more planning and finesse, as you have to anticipate what you're going to need at the right time, but with command 1 ships this is relatively easy. Overall I'm a big fan. If I could deploy a little better it would be easier to lay down more damage, as 3 ships didn't make any battery shots until the very last turn!
Best of luck to Maturn taking Leia into the next games.

Well, Leia is really similar to Tarkin. You have dial and Token every round. Even the cost are the same.
With Leia you can at least use different Command Tokens on different ships, depending on the command dial. Tarkin on the other hand gives all the time token, but you can mix dial and token with him (on each ship). They are both really similar, and i fear that Leia will have the same problems as Tarkin has. She will not be picked so often. The cost of 38 is just to high.

Any admiral costing 30+ is really hard to justify.
Still a few days left of Round 1, but most of the games have been completed:

SoonerTed and I started our match but had to stop play and continue another time.
GG Tokra - and you might be proud to hear that was my worst score in Armada ever ![]()
The combination of Sloane-powered rolls and defence token stripping and the way that the 6 gozantis could operate at full effect even while always disengaging from the combat zone made an unusually 1 sided game.
You deserve credit for a well-played game and a well-built fleet, but it was also an excellent example of the negative potential of Infinite Range Relay:
This is why we can't have nice things ![]()
@ManInTheBox - a great game that I really enjoyed as well. I believe it was the first time flying the fleets for both of us....a learning experience indeed. I do think your build takes better advantage of Leia, as the command 1 really lets you react well to tactical conditions. I have to do a little more planning, which with command 2's isn't horrible, but it's one more thing to keep track of in messy combat situations.
I have to give props to your jamming field - it really countered my sniping E-wings, and you flew your transport well, keeping those aces covered for much of the game.
The score really makes it seem a tighter game than it was - I think ManIntheBox really had the upper hand most of the game. ![]()

Since I'm running a prototypical Rieekan list that showed up a lot at Worlds, I feel like a schmuck already. Keep in mind that lists were due BEFORE Worlds. ![]()

It is always easier said than it is done.
When is the first round supposed to end and when does the second round start? I will be unavailable from 5-24 to 6-2 because I'll be in Cancun and travelling.
