Since I kind of have everything foundation-wise in place now, I figured I'd do a less-scrambled, more succinct and more organized thread for both updates and requests, and maybe gather your opinions on a few different things I'm considering. I can delete the old thread if mods/anyone want me to but I figured I'd just let it fade out naturally for record-keeping's sake.
But first, the spiel of where it stands now:
Tabletop Admiral is a list-building website for Runewars (and Imperial Assault), found at http://tabletopadmiral.com/runewars/
Features:
- Create an account, save your list
- Made with mobile in mind. Page will rearrange to fit your device and I feel it's pretty intuitive for mobile. It's not perfect though in that regard, but I'll continually be thinking about and addressing it.
- Print view button at the bottom, copies and pastes well if you want to share on the forum
-
Added all of the spoiled cards so far. There's a check-box at the bottom to allow you to toggle between showing and hiding unreleased stuff.
- This is automatically checked for elves since you'd just have a blank page otherwise.
- The IA people can vouch that I will add cards USUALLY the day that they're spoiled, so you can always play around with the newly spoiled stuff
- Uses the card images for easy referencing
-
Has both Ardus and Kari's abilities coded in, so your list will adjust automagically when you add or remove them
- Kari's obviously only matters now if you have unreleased stuff shown, but even then since we don't have deepwood archers' card back spoiled yet, you can't really do much. But hey, I'm ready!
- A "latest lists" page, so you can take a look at what other people are doing: http://tabletopadmiral.com/runewars/lists/
Planned Features ( Rougly in order of when I plan to do them, but I make no promises.)
-
Replace the code generation stuff at the bottom with share-link generation instead so you don't have to make sure you're on the right faction's page to plug in a list code - Copy to clipboard button for easily pasteable list for forum use and such
- Replace upgrade card images with better quality ones
- Hopefully replace the units' FFG card spread images with a single image of the front and a single image of the back stacked vertically to save some screen space
-
Improve the layout of the lists page.
Would like to add the faction icons instead of having them spelled out like they are now, for quicker visual scanning. - Detailed print view with all the upgrade info.
Want to help?
- I could use good, clean, straight, .png scans with transparent backgrounds of the upgrade cards and unit cards. It would be about a week before I can actually get my hands on the cards (I keep all my stuff at a friend's house since he's the main person I play with), so I can do it, but if someone else could do it sooner, that would be great. I noticed the ones on the wiki have a watermark on them, which I don't want to use. Do post here though if you plan to do it. I'd hate for 2 people to do it at the same time and one of you to be wasting your time.
- Have a way to get a clean .png of the faction images? They're in the bottom left of the faction-specific upgrade cards, but I really haven't seen them anywhere else. They wouldn't need to be big, I'd just like to use them on the lists page, so really about the height of this text or a little bigger would be fine if anyone is good at cleaning up such things. I could do it eventually, but I do have a job and am trying to implement all the above things, so why not outsource?
- This takes up a lot of my personal time to maintain, as well as hosting fees (admittedly small, but right now I'm at $2/mo on patreon so it's coming out of my pocket!). I have no delusions of making a bunch of (or any) money doing this. I'm learning web development and this has been and is a great learning project. I would really appreciate it if you considered just throwing me $1/mo on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/andrewinge (Mods, let me know if this is not okay and I'll remove it). Alternatively, find me a remote job doing web development. Only half-joking. Actually like 1/4 joking at most.
What I could use your feedback on
-
Do you care about the builder knowing what you own and adjusting accordingly, or are you okay with just seeing everything and adding unlimitedly? The set that a unit/upgrade comes from is shown below its image when you select it.
- If you do want to be able to select what you own, how would you like that to work? Tell it how many stands of each unit you own? Just tell it what you bought? I know some people trade or buy specific things in a way that's different from FFG packaging, so I wondered if a la cart would make the most sense? (ex: Reanimate Archers: 5 bases, and so on)
- Would you want a "free-for-all" view, where you can just add whatever you want from all factions with no restrictions on anything? I guess this would make it more like my IA builder.
- Is the layout/arrangement ideal? Any gripes or things that would be useful? Of course, keeping desktop AND mobile in mind, I can only do so much, but I'm open to opinions.
- Anything else. Whaddya want?
So much for succinct. In summary, check it out, if you like it, throw me $1/mo to help out on Patreon . Find me a web dev job. Let me know what you'd like changed or added. Thanks for all the kind words thus far.
