One shot pbp for a practice at GM-ing

By TheShard, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So my girlfriend has a brother diagnosed with asperger's syndrome, he's high functioning and with somethings he is incredibly smart, but obviously social stuff is a problem. My girlfriend always has a problem bring with him, we cone over he's stays in his room...

He's really into video gaming, so I thought this might get his interest. plus if I GM, then the two can work as a team. Plus I can throw him social situations, he can think out rather then worrying about facial cues etc. Which stresses him out.

So I'm not a GM. I have a poor grasp of certain rules, such as all the vehicle stuff like chase rules etc, and I'm a little iffy on ranges... However I'm good with stories, dialog and impromptu ad libing!

So I'm wondering if any GMs or rule experts wanna get a break and play on the players side and help critique my rules usage or help me problem solve in preparation for a face to face game.

Sweet! We got one taker...

So besides having a campaign where I get to exercise a lot of the rules, what would you be interested in?

I'm going to try to throw a lot of variety of settings in, as well as vehicle combat so that I get a good sense of everything.

Also good mix of all 3 core books.

I'm saying maybe 4-5 players, at least 1 starting career from each core book... Max 2 force sensitives (at least to start).

Knight Level play please. Perhaps an episodic AoR game, nothing too complicated so you can make it more about the rules.

For PBP I would recommend very short adventures, each one only lasting two or three scenes which is roughly 3 to 4 weeks of RL time. Be afraid to advance the plot with your own description. Just focus on important scenes.

eg: Stealing an Imperial Transport:

Scene 1: Sneaking in, some stealth Coordination Computers perhaps Deception. The group sneak into the Star port, working together to overcome various small obstacles.

Scene 2: Guards! A fight while the tech guy disables the the locking clamps and opens the ship.

Scene 3: The getaway. A chase through canyons as a Squadron of Ties tries to stop the PC's. Gunnery, Piloting, Slicing, Astrogation, Ship Repairs.

I wouldn't mind joining in a PbP game if you're looking for more.

I'm fairly experienced with PbP, although I mostly only have Edge books/knowledge.

Ok that's 2

Haven't played in a couple years but I'm tentatively very interested.

I'll happily slip into the role of a Heavy or some type of commando style special forces kind of Soldier type. Either way I'm leaning towards a strongly combat oriented character.

Have room for an Ace Chandra-Fan? I have never played in Age of Rebellion, but have played in EotE.

Need to withdraw already. Sorry!

If we do go AoR, my initial idea is a Gank Sentry, Brawn and Cunning the focus. This is a guy dedicated to the Rebels who gets the job done at any cost, sometimes that gets him in trouble with brass.

If no one objects then the character would start Dark Side, some times bad people do good things, usually for their own goals

I wanna do a bit from all 3 books to get a sense of how it works, so people are welcome to have duty, morality or obligation based on which spec they choose.

So for a tentative plot line maybe a rebel something is hiring a smuggler/pilot/mercenary/whatever to help them ferry a force sensitive they just discovered.

If you have alternate ideas I'm game. I will not sort change anyone on the story but I want something where I have to flex all the mechanical elements.

Yup definitely interested. Calling dibs on a techie/mechanic-y Drall Soldier Heavy with a little bit of Tech Specialist thrown in for good measure. Think Rocket Racoon meets ship's mechanic.

Sounds fine, I also don't mind if the Force Sensitivity isn't played up at the beginning. It could easily be an already established rebel cell to cut down on "getting to know you" time. It also gives us reason to write motivations that explain our reasons for being together (saves you coming up with that part)

Sounds good.

Not that being Dark Side shouldn't have its consequences, I'm saying I don't want to hog the spotlight.

If it's only going to be 1-3 "adventures" and knight level I'd be interested. I have ideas for a light-saber wielding character (since one person is already force sensative) or an analyst with a computers focus.

Max 2 force sensitives, and that's assuming we have an aor and an eote specs filmed otherwise have at it.

What kinda starting credits are you thinking for this? Depending on the amount it tweaks my concept up a bit and changes what level/amount of cybernetics I'm planning on my little guy having or how tricked out his weapons/gear will be.

If it's full knight level then after fully completing creation you get 150xp as well as a choice between a Basic Lightsaber and 9000cr. But Shard can do what he likes

Would anyone be opposed to a rowdy mercenary droid instead of a Drall? I have a concept I think would work.

I love droids, I would play one if I wasn't playing a Force User.

I was thinking a mechanic too, but I suppose I could work up another Smuggler/pilot.

Someone who has a family member imprisoned on an Imperial prison planet. He's working for the Rebellion, smuggling supplies around, and in return they are supposed to help him get his (younger brother/sister/parent?) out of prison.

Hey! I've been lurking on these forums for about a month now, but I saw this post and registered. It looks like you've got enough folks interested for your one-shot PbP, but thought I'd check anyways...need another player?

I'd be interested, probably be a smuggler/gambler, but I'm flexible!

Spatula, you take mechanic and I'll stick to my big guns/infiltration? I'd prefer to be a main combatant anyway, so it works out perfectly on my end.
