Make a (hypothetical) bet. Do you bet on these pilots being in a worlds winning list, or against?

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

You are making a bet. Let's say, $200 on the table for the bet. The winning side splits the funds evenly.

You are betting whether the winning list will include one of the listed ships. Do you bet on these pilots, or against them?

The list:

Asajj Ventress

Biggs Darklighter

Fenn Rau

Jumpmaster 5000 (all pilots)

Miranda Doni

Lets hear what the community thinks.

2017 Year of the Empire!!! betting against :)

Safe to say we'll be seeing the pilots you listed dominating Swiss though. Crazy you can sum up an entire Meta with 5 pilots.

Are we allowed to withdraw bets if the conditions change between now and then; ie, one of them gets banned or nerfed? Because if we can, I'd put down money on that and make a point of telling you exactly how I planned to spend your money - preferably on something you hated. MLP merch? Star Trek stuff? Anime? It wouldn't have to be something that I liked, just something you hated.

Hah, so much for the 'wide open meta' some people were proclaiming after the Manaroo/Palp nerf.

Is that as a group or one individual pilot? By that I mean is it a bet that any of those 5 will be in the winning list, or do you want answers for each of those pilots.

Ya obviously any change between now and then would result in a refund. ;)

Sorry, guess I could be more clear. It's for the listed pilots as a collective group. If any of them are in the worlds winning list, if you bet against them, you lose the bet.

Given that I'm playing Asajj, I certainly hope she's in the winning list!

Oh I'd easily bet for that group. I'm honestly surprised you didn't have the Ghost/Kanan Pilot included in that list too for how popular that ship is. Although I guess naming Biggs already takes care of that anyway.

If this were an actual bet, you'd need to offer odds on this - and I'd say the odds of any of them winning are 50 to 1 for. In other words, as a real bookie, you'd have to say, "Lay $50 bucks down that any of these pilots will win, and a win will get you $1 back."

Where you'd have to make your money back is laying odds on which ones are most LIKELY to win.

I think the real discussion KDubb is looking for is there any lists out there that have as a good shot without those pilots. I'd need to think about it.

5 Cartel Marauders. Clearly the best list anyone could fly. ;)

I'd be willing to place a hypothetical bet for that list holding some of the winning team, particularly with all Jumpermaster pilots covered.

That is like 95% of all regionals winners. I'd say its most likely gonna contain the winner.

I would bet on those pilots for certain. They are a veritable who's-who of the ships making cuts. Stands to reason they'd come to the top of Worlds, too.

Seems like a safe investment to bet on those pilots winning. You forgot to include Luke Skywalker though.

TFA Luke Skywalker (Resistance A-Wing with "Turn Focus results to Evade") isn't released yet.

Haha, that would be a sweet ability with 3 green dice. Still, A-wings suffer from low offence I don't see it being on a final table.

I think the ships we could see outside the list would be;

Black Squadron Tie Fighters

Defenders

Bunke Swarm

Jess Pava

RAC

Braylen Stramm

I'd maybe give them around 5-10% vs the original pilots above.

We also don't know what the rest of the ship comes with. A Title or System that gives +1 firepower at Range 1? A second missile slot to use that new double-slot upgrade?

I think that last one would be pretty sweet, especially if the new Resistance A-Wing can take the Test Pilot Title...

I'd take anyone's $200 who wanted to bet against those.

Both of those ideas would be HOT! #MakeLukeGreatAgain

Especially if you could also take Chaardan Refit still to basically put free Prockets on any Resistance A-Wing...

Now THAT'S a valid choice. Extra firepower the whole time, or a massive 5-dice attack for free?

With Luke's ability I feel like he will be getting lots of shots off, I'd go with option 1

Man, I'm surprised no one is willing to take the field. That is Eight pilots in a game with around 250 available, and no one is willing to bet against them.

Says a lot about the balance of the game I think if you can't bet against <4% of the field.

Also, the way the money is distributed makes the odds @iamfanboy. If everyone bet that at least 1 of the listed ships would be in the winning list, then everyone would just get their $200 back. If, say, 200 bet for and 1 bet against, if the guy who bet against wins, he gets (200*200)+(200/1), or 40,200. Whereas if those who bet for the list win, they would get (200*1)+(200/200), or $201 each.

In all fairness, squads usually have 3+ pilots in them, and this list consists entirely of pilots that are versatile enough to appear in several configurations and alongside dozens of potential wingmen. That's a lot less restrictive than, say, 8 specific ship builds or squad builds or squad archetypes.
