I was happy when I recognized the JoCo title
You are doing God's work with the titles.
I try to be upbeat but you definitely can't escape the fact that when it comes to blue crit upgrades, most of them kind of suck.
For me, I was surprised to see a lot of my thoughts of the other day mirrored... I always worry I'm being an over-negative arse when I'm talking about MS-1 and NK-7s...

Nah, I agree with you 100% on those.
The problem is walking the line between "seriously, these just aren't that great" without coming across as "you filthy casuals that play for jank combos should go throw yourselves off a bridge." I never intend to communicate the latter, but people can read the tone of text, especially when using hyperbole, in ways you didn't intend. Happens to me with some regularity, anyways.

Oh Ion Cannon Upgrades....the thing I want to be good to go with my favorite dice, but that just....always make me sad because the options are so limited.
Ever tried a Combat Refit with High-Cap turrets? I feel like that could be a thing.
damnit, because of your phoenicians reference, I started reading about them on Wikipedia, and now reading on Carthage because I'm currently doing a Rome 2 Total War campaign, and now I'm late to prepare supper.

Turns out when your culture is the first one to invent the concept of an alphabet, you get to be pretty good traders when you're right there on the Mediterranean. That makes you pretty rich, which makes you able to set up new colonies, which makes one of them extremely powerful, which makes it an enemy of Rome, which makes it dead.
Everything was going pretty swell up until the end part there. Also if you've ever wondered who this god named Baal was in the Old Testament, he was basically Phoenician Zeus (vast simplification but there you go, we're talking about a god that existed for millennia, he changes over time).

If High Capacity Ion Turbines weren't so expensive, I'd be keener on the idea. Being able to add a blue die at all to the sides of an ISD-I is pretty sweet but spending 8 points for what will usually be +1 blue die on one attack a turn on a ship with 2 blue in the sides already is a bit steep for me. In general I leave the ion cannon upgrade slot empty when I'm running a Combat Refit Interdictor to save points.
If the Combat Refit swapped out the ion cannon slot for a turbolaser slot, I'm sure I'd feel a little differently.
Yeah, I've always wished it had Turbos myself. H9s would be nasty on that chasis. 3blue 2 red double arced with 2blue 2 red seems pretty solid though. I have been getting the feeling that three blue dice is the point where they start to really become useful.

Yeah with turbolasers I'd be considering Spinals or Dual Turbos or TRCs with Needa or some such. The Combat Refit distinguishes itself mostly through the superior range but the trade-off is that going down to 2 blue dice makes the blue crit upgrades very unreliable and makes SW-7s a bit meh as well. It's not that bad a situation when you're trying to keep it cheap (which the Combat Refit usually manages to do for me better than the "give it all the upgrades!" Suppressor Refit does) but if they wanted folks to consider more upgrades on the Combat Refit, a turbolaser slot would've differentiated it a bit more.
Honestly though - I think its a nice change of pace... A Bigger Ship
without
Turbolasers. Get used to not having that XI7 or Extra Red Die Adding Effect.

Wait till you get to Hannibal. You know the dude's a boss when his enemies praise him.
Put it this way. I dont see much benefit in them and I run sensor teams and yv666s....

Eeexcellent.
EDIT:
How many arquittens do you like to fly?
I've personally been running two of them in a staggered train formation with some DTTs. The double-layering turns them into a sort of discount AF line, and with DTTs and some concentrate fires I've had some people be surprised when they suddenly lose a ship in that crossfire.
I think a note should also be made about the "Jerrjerrod Drift" that these things can perform at speed 3. A 2-yaw base, and a 2-yaw final position allow for a really silly sideways maneuver that's amazing at keeping a target in your side arc while geting some distance.

Meowsic to my ears. I don't paws at all in saying that your articles are the cat's pajamas, near purrfect in every way. Cat pun. Cat pun, cat pun, cat pun.
Cat pun. Good read, especially since I'm expecting one soon.
So a weird thing happened to me when I tried to order the Light Cruiser through my FLGS: It was out of stock. At both distributors he had access to. Even online, it wasn't an easy find.
Is it just me, or is this a common refrain since Asmodee took over? first there was the EXTREMELY limited TIE Striker/U-Wing run - both out of stock at distributors. Then there's the Destiny stuff. Now this. It makes me wonder if FFG's print runs are being limited since the overage on X-Wing TFA Core sets.

I always just assume it is because are are the red-headed step child of FFG.

The Light Cruiser has been on back order at least twice since its release, to my knowledge. It's been a very popular ship due to the sweet upgrade cards it comes bundled with, so even Rebels are picking some up just for the DTTs and RBDs (and other initializations too, I'm sure). I've also noticed that since the Asmodee merger, FFG's supply chain issues have become more pronounced but it seems to be calming down the further in we get. It's not completely settled just yet but it seems to be getting better.

yes, but the actual warehouses that send them to gamestores are out of stock.
Oh well. I only want one right now anyway; no one up here plays Armada, and my first love is Malifaux. Those wonderful, beautiful minis...
Okay, my FIRST love was Battletech, and she's still around - changed for the better after going through some really rough times, but it's hard to find time to meet up. My SECOND love, Necromunda, died tragically in a house fire set for the insurance money. My THIRD love, Bloodbowl, disappeared in mysterious circumstances, but I've heard rumors that she's been around and I wonder if she'd remember me if I called her back. My FOURTH love, Warhammer 40k, cheated on me, stole all my stuff, tried to get me arrested, and last I heard she was in rehab trying to convince her parole officer that she'd really gotten better. Then I got into a fling with this other game, X-Wing, but we split amicably and still hang out occasionally. Then someone set me up on a blind date with Warmachine, but man, she is boring : always the same thing over and over again. Then I met Malifaux, and she is just my kind of creepy. So I guess Malifaux is my fifth love.
But I can see Armada on the side, ya know? It's got that big-size bootay that I like in a 'friends-with-benefits' situation.
