The third wheel.

By Ronu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So flipping back and forth with some ideas on the best wing mate to go with my already set portion of the list.

already set is as follows:

Omega Leader: Juke and Comm Relay

Quickdraw: Title, LWF, Pat An, and FCS.

This leaves me with 39 points. I Know I'm looking at a Defender, and not Vessery as I want someone who is a bit more solid end game.

This leaves me a few options.

Countess Ryad: PTL, X-7 and Engine upgrade (39) or with MKII for (36) and points for an EPT on Quickdraw.

Rexlar Brath: X-7 VI and MKII for 37. Which means either adaptability or VI for QD. And a possible bid.

Lastly there is Marek Steele: X-7 MKII and eithe PTL (37) or VI (35). Again points for bids or other EPT's.

Why VI on Maarek and Rexlar? I think that Juke might serve you better, since both of their abilities like to get damage through, and it also forces some difficult choices for your opponents as to where to spend that focus.

Maybe these:

-Rexler (Expertise, TIE/x7 title) - 39 points

Then adding Trick Shot to Quickdraw.

-Rexler (Juke, TIE/x7 title, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II) - 38 points

Then adding Crack Shot to Quickdraw

The Juke thoughts are interesting. I was looking at VI to get to PS 10 to get a bit of a jump on Fenn Rays and even Miranda's at an 8 with any type of bid.

I could be looking at a situation of stress and if that is the case then Juke becomes less desirable. Still something to consider though. Other thoughts?

Unpopular opinions I know but here are some solid options that aren't all aces for a change

support:

Major Stridan — Upsilon-class Shuttle 32
Systems Officer 2
Operations Specialist 3
Kylo Ren's Shuttle 2
Ship Total: 39

Ordnance (with points left over for expertise on QuickDraw and whatever else)

Tomax Bren — TIE Bomber 24
Crack Shot 1
Extra Munitions 2
Concussion Missiles 4
Guidance Chips 0
Ship Total: 31

The long shot :P

Imperial Trainee — TIE Striker 17
Lightweight Frame 2
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 19
Imperial Trainee — TIE Striker 17
Lightweight Frame 2
Adaptive Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 19

These are intentionally untraditional but I thought I may as well try post some non-ace options so enjoy ;)

I not really fan about Quickdraw, she will die quickly and it's pretty rare you use 3 in the row her ability since imperial have no regen.

Backdraft with VI, FCS, Title and LWF is a good support and if you have points a targeting synchroniser could be useful for bomber with homing missiles.

For your choice about the defender : Countess Ryad !

My take on this kind of lists. This core is something we are testing/want to test in my group and are swapping some stuff. May be you can get some ideas from it.

The Inquisitor (25)

The thing about imperial ases is that, speaking for myself, i want someone who can have an easy time with TLTs, thats why i want an autothursters user.

I always struggle to justify PTL on te inquisitor thanks to his title which gives him an evade for the TL. Which is almost never my two choices of actions but the fact that it has that efficiency makes me question whether PTL is worth the costs, however getting a TL, focus and an Evade in one turn is enticing.

the inquisitor isn't a bad choice for a third member/wheel in this list and in my groups one v one dogfights he's quite dangerous, however he's succeptible to focus... just giving my 2 cents.

Contrary to you, i always struggle to justify any other ept on inquisitor. The thing is that you get arcdodging, tanking via tokens stacking defense and also stacking for the attack with the TL. Inquisitor just loves to fight at range 3 to get trusthers and an extra dice while denying it to the opponent, it also has good enough greens to not be a liability. With the addition of proton rockets it has a really nasty actual range 1 shot consisting in 5 dice with TL+Focus + another action to either get to range 1, arcdodge to range 1 or stack an evade.
