Stress Jess, Mean Greens, Darn Tarn

Ran this list at a small tournament this weekend. Went 4-0 without losing a ship in the last 3 matches. I have always liked Jess, but I totally underestimated her ability. She was even better than I expected. Whenever she was targeted first, she tanked shots like a champ and my opponents regretted targeting her after they saw her consistently get 2 evades.

I found the A-wing's speed and dial allowed them to get back into range 1 with Jess even after the first engagement. Snap Shot + Juke/Crack helps with aces, but I do think the list will still struggle against Mindlink, which is a big issue.

I wanted M9-G8 to go along with Snap Shot, and Tarn is great with it. He struggles due to being in an X-wing still, but I actually really like him here. Also... He is PS 3, and I really like having all my ships at the same PS if possible. I'm not a great pilot, so being able to move the ships in any order helps mitigate that a bit.

So since I'm considering taking this to some store championships after a good initial showing, any thoughts on ways to improve the list? I could go double juke on the awings, but the 1 point initiative bid gives me a chance to take initiative against x7 Defenders and other lists with PS 3 ships so Snap Shot is more effective in those scenarios. Not certain thrusters is necessary on the Awings either, and I could switch out Tarn if I'm convinced there is a super worthwhile alternative at a similar price.

Fascinating. My experience with snap shot hasn't been quite as successful but I do think it's a nice ability. Jess has done well for me as has Tarn. I disagree that you need a bid with a low PS list like this... Did you find the juke Awing better than the crackshot long term?

I do think you got lucky on your evade rolls, but with a list like this you totally embrace the luck and just fly it. Looks like fun.

I mean, Jess is grabbing focus a lot of the time and the greens aren't awful on the T-70 for when she uses stressbot, and having rerolls with a focus will get you a lot of evades. My dice might have been good though and skewed my view. Primed Thrusters didn't come into play a ton... Maybe I drop that for Pattern Analyzer, though that doesn't synergize well with R3-A2.

Snap Shot is weird. I have seen it fall flat, and I have seen it work miracles. I originally was flying the formation (if I set up on the right) in a box with the greens in the left slots, and Jess in the front right and Tarn in the back right. I changed to have the greens in the front line and Jess in the corner, and that seemed to get me a lot more Snap Shot triggers.

Now that you bring up whether I get more value out of Juke, I actually think maybe I didn't. Juke cripples the ships offense a lot of times, especially since a lot of the time you are spending the evade. Maybe I just go double Crack Shot? That gives me 2 points to work with if I want to go to 100. I do like the initiative bid though. Scouts are all over, and x7 is still prevalent enough I think it could be worth it.

And don't get me wrong... I have had some good runs with the Xwings. I think I prefer primed thrusters in this case, as you have it. It's probably better to have emergency maneuverability after a round of stressbot in which you can't clear it than to have the action after a talon roll. Neither really synergize with R3A2, but of the two...

Who were you targeting with Tarn/M9? One of the Awings?

Ya I would usually target the juke A-wing, and let the TL sit there until Tarn was targeted, at which point I would grab it on the attacking ship with Tarn's ability. Getting a reroll on a Snap Shot is nice in the early engagements, but I think the defensive capabilities of it with Tarn's ability are too valuable to keep it on the A-wing once he starts getting targeted.
