How many points for an Imperial Light Carrier?

By Hrathen, in Star Wars: Armada

With 6 hull, 7 total shields, and only 2 defense tokens, how many points do you think they are good no to cost. I am really hoping they will cost less than two gozantis. Two gozantis and one lambda shuttle or some pretty nasty fighter activation for pretty cheap. And you get the activation advantage.

Maybe I am just excited for them and haven't heard anything on the for a while.

I just want them to be good.

mid 50s to low 60s.

If the version without red AA is more than 45-50 points, I question its value in theory.

Expect it to be slightly above the nebulon B

More than Arquitens Command. Less than VSD-I.

Two Goz are 46.

But this one gives you more value from upgrades / and it has a weapons team.

It can shoot. And it has a RED AS die.

61.

I just feel like they are going to die so much faster than two flotillas, and they can't take as good advantage of a single shuttle.

I really want to play these. I want them to be good. But they are very niche specific, so they have to be very good at there niche, if they come in second or even close to other ships that aren't so specialized I worry about their value.

What they give you, which two Gozantis don't, is the ability to "alpha strike" with your squadrons . Taking expanded hangars and banking a squadron token, they can activate a 6-squadron "alpha strike". And given they can also take Flight Controllers...that can potentially be a MASSIVE kick.

Like...just imagine what, say, 5 squadrons of TIE Interceptors and Howlrunner could do to an enemy bomber formation, being able to all jump into range and attack at the same time (with that +1 blue from FC and +1 from Howl). I mean, seriously, who cares if the enemy has an 'escort'? Just blow it away... then blow away the intel ship... and start eating into the bomber formation itself, because why not?

The kind of potential for squadron enablement that this thing offers, I imagine, is going to be reflected in its price. Less than a VSD-I, definitely, but...I'm not sure I'd expect a huge amount less. I think the 50-60 pt range that seems the common assumption is probably accurate.

Quasar gives your activation more quality in one activation than just quantity in 2 activations.

But I can do that already with an ISD and then the ISD is still great after the alpha strike. Where as the Carrier isn't really going to do much more than pushing around squadrons. Alpha strike isn't enough it needs to be useful (and cost effective) for the whole game.

An ISD with a couple of Flotillas can alpha strike and then pass off the fighter control to the support ship when alpha striking isn't as important.

why not just use it to do your so called alpha strike one ship or fighter group then again the next one then the next and the next. and with out tying up a ISD or VSD :) all game long. well worth 50 points.

Yes, well worth 55 points or so and I would gladly pay 61-62 for the red AS die. If it does nothing but sit back and activate a lot of squads and supports those same squads with red AS a good operator can absolutely dominate the squadron game with one of these. At the very least it gives imperials a medium-cost medium base list building option to push squads. Up till now we have had VSDs (which are fine) but if you absolutely only intend on bringing a VSD for squad activations and not as a gunship/carrier you were always losing out to Flots. Choice is good. If they make it even 70 points they done screwed up.
