If you were going to give large ships a cloak how would you errata the decloak rules?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

I would use a 2-template, flush along the base, in any direction. So a Large ship could decloak in four directions, but only move the width of a template, and with no wiggle-room.

What's the perma-cloak exploit?

There is a crew in the upcoming CROC expansion that allows you to swap out illicit upgrades. So you take cloaking device, cloak your ship then swap it out for a different illicit upgrade. It's not that big of a deal I suppose. You'll have to decloak to shoot and then you can't recloak. Not really overpowered or anything. I think it just feels wrong to be cloaked when you don't even have a cloaking device equipped anymore.

Surely it will be errated to be that you can't be cloaked if you no longer have the cloaking device equipped.

Illicit Cloaking Device and Vizago Cikatro(or whatever, new 0 point crew in C-Roc). Cloak, then trigger Vizago at the end phase to switch the Illicit Cloaking Device for another Illicit upgrade for 2 or 1 points. Don't decloak.

Tada! Now you've got a perma-cloaked ship :D

Right now I hope it's something they'll keep in, I don't think an Agility 4 Quadjumper will break the game, but I'd not be surprised if they don't want Agility 4 Mux or Palob running around.

Edit: I missed there was a page 2... Oops.

Yeah, poor scum. I was just thinking the other day how their large ships need just a little extra something to compete. I think you should combine this with some sort of super bomb upgrade and then just maybe we'd see a few large scum ships in play... I mean in X-Wing ships always come with the upgrades they have in fluff and it'd be weird to see one factions established drive or slam or the such being handed out to another exclusively. FFG, do this now! We need this incredible upgrade

Well this whole scum sideboard is going to need an errata, how it is supposed to work for tournaments, and so on.

Now the question is will we start to see a sideboard for Rebels and Imperials? I can see Rebels swapping astromech slots. Imperials, I guess crew but the big question is who, vader<crew> has already been made. Either way that is a different topic. Maybe I should post a new one.

That's pretty close to the suggestion I had earlier which is just decloaking the large ship in a donut immediately outside of it's current position. The templates have little trouble front/back because of the nubs however.

True. Not enough to worry about, though, especially if it's consistent. (And it should be.)

BTW, if I were designing Cloak from scratch, I'd do it this way (with completely revamped rules) for Small ships, also.

Title card:

"Banshee". Lancer class only

Your action bar gains the cloak action.

Done.
