Vayas painting- Core Box + Lieutenants

By VAYASAN, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Ok I have bee around a couple of months now, I have been asking piles of questions on here (all nicely answered thank you). Somehow IA/Descent escaped my attention bein a wargamer but upon discovery I have gone a bit FFG mad. I have embarked on a project to paint all the base set and the Heirs of Blood Ltns.

Apart from the Heroes, I have left the bases lank for now but intend to go back and complete them once I decide on what to do with them. I will post pics up as I finish stuff (I work pretty quick). I have drawn inspiration from many areas and guides.

More to follow. Critique always welcome.

Nice Work.

Only one thing: I'd recommend to make the monster bases nice as well. Improves the overall look quite dramatically. Also, I recommend a slightly different colour scheme for the master monsters (as you did for the Zombies) . Your Heroes look great though.

The one critique I would give is that bad eyes ruin otherwise great jobs. I suggest just going with a shade wash technique until you are comfortable avoiding beady eyes.

How do you mean Kaain.

Do you mean the pupil is too small maybe? I can see something is not quite right with em but cant work out what exactly (if that makes sense)

Impressive !

Even if I really don't like the heroes' bases. For boardgame, they all should be like what you do to monster. But this is my personnal opinion

Thanks

Ill be doing the Monster bases down the line at some point, just wanted to get them painted up as I am a bit odd in that I hate playing with unpainted figures...so wanted them with paint, then will base them once all the core is finished.

They aren't natural looking eyes is the problem I think. For an eye to look "right" (in my opinion) on a humanoid figure, it should be white, with a touch of shading in the edges, with a reasonably properly sized pupil and iris. If it isn't done right it just looks jarring.

It's hard to say for sure because your photos are a little low resolution to really tell, but it looks like you have the schlera's dark when they should be white, and then the iris and pupil are both the same color, neither of which looks like a normal eye color. So the end effect is a non eye colored dot sitting in a sea of darkness. Like beady demon eyes.

I didn't feel like taking the time to do the eyes on mine, so I'm just letting the wash shadow suffice. I think it's the best alternative if you don't want to do a proper eye.

A few more which now finishes the core set. I still have to work on the monsters bases, will be doing a painted cobblestone look on them (just wanted them playable first). I actually nearly have my first expansion box (narekhall) nearly finished too and will post up soon.
