Happy Friday to all

By Cubanboy, in X-Wing

Well its Friday and its been a great week, good time with the son, wife and I got to play X-wing.

My question this week, do you get to play with any family ever, who and what do they fly?

My wife flies whatever I put on a Chewie, she has no idea how to play but is happy because I am happy.

I play with my son. It's great seeing what creative lists he comes up with.

No, they're not really up for the complexity of X-Wing, they prefer something else, and the girlfriend's not really into Star Wars (although she's loved the last two movies).

I have two sons who sometimes play X-wing. The eldest (Paul, age 24) has played in a couple of tournaments and really enjoys HotAC - we played a game or two every weekend he visited home from college. As with almost everything involving Paul, the campaign ended quite dramatically and was a lot of fun.

My youngest son (Joshua, age 12) also plays X-wing... I actually got XWM as a birthday gift for him but he was not as impressed (and hooked) as I was... go figure. Anyways... he does not really enjoy 1 v 1 play (says it is "too simple, boring and limited") but does enjoy cooperative play like HoTAC... but not that much, either. What he does enjoy is Epic... because it is... EPIC! We have a standing challenge with a friend and his daughter, that everyone looks forward to.

So, "yes", I do get to play with my kids... and it is some of the most fun I have had gaming.

No family to play with (no wife/kids). However, I did play a game against a 5th grader the other night. She likes to fly, and make pretty designs with touching bases, so we did that, taking ocassional potshots at each other. She built her own list, has a good grasp of rules and mechanics, understands upgrade synergies to a decent degree, forgot to take actions a lot (so I purposefully stayed stressed to balance things out), and she won. She was genuinely gracious in victory.

And I had fun.

My brother got me into this game, and he is the only one I play with. Originally, he was going to be Rebels, and me Imps to keep costs down. Now we pretty much play all 3 factions, but I tend to play Imps more.

Briefly, we got my other brother and my nephew to play, but they have since bowed out.

My brother and I play whenever he visits!

  • My wife plays a bit - she enjoyed TIE swarms and TIE Interceptors. Dial dependent games she annihilated people (myself included) but the card combos that hard countered her dial flying skill styled lists chased her out of tournaments. She's not interested in flying the same power things. Still likes the odd game and HotAC.
  • My brother-in-law, and his daughters. Scum, Rebel and Imperial - one faction each.
  • My other sister and her partner - Think she likes Rebels (only because that's what she knows from the movies) She may play only to tolerate and be a part of what her BF wants.
  • My daughter (she's five - Mario Kart racing - I think I might have crossed the finish line ahead of her once...)

Happy Friday

I've shown older son (35) the basics and he is chomping at the bit to try more, which will happen once we move closer to where he lives. While my wife plays Firefly the Board Game, she will not touch X-Wing, even to help paint. (She does help with painting 28mm Counterblast figures, which is very cool.)

Played a 3 v 3 100pt squad on same map. Complete FAIL flying my Duchess, but did well with Countess and Backdraft. Next week looking to play The Hunger Games.

Have a great weekend, everybody! Thanks for the Happy Friday, CB!

For me....this has been a really stressful week due to job. Also, I didn't get to play last night as my daughter's very last marching band banquet was held before she goes off to college. So....the last hurdle to a good Thursday night has been hit!

My son is 11 and I've tried to play with him. We have done fun games and done one HotAC. He likes playing Scum as he thinks the ships look cool. He likes lots of generics. I usually let him win, but make it a challenge. I've found his attention spawn drops about half way through the game and he just gets silly. We haven't tried in a while. Maybe tonight?

My boy is only 2.

But he does love the ships. He'll be into it I'm sure. ?

As long as they aren't into him! I swear, they put anything in their mouth at that age...

My wife, like yours, often is happy because I am happy. So we do play some games that might not otherwise be her first choice. It's the wrong forum but to answer your question last night she flew a Sopwith Camel. It was a tough bombing mission with three planes on a side, multiple AAMGs and trenches. As for X-Wing, I do think shes like the Millennium Falcon the best and has played that. Also she's flown X-Wings and TIE fighters but prefers to let our guests choose their side first. Since we have supplied the game for both sides I tend to have the squads prebuilt and printed. We grab a sheet with our ship(s) and play.

Eat, socialize and game.

Happy Friday!

Unfortunately no, the immediate family isn't interested in X-Wing. I tried real hard, even commissioned a MLP Rainbow Dash A-Wing for my daughter, which she absolutely loved, for a while, but she only seems interested in playing when friends are over and we're playing. As for the wife, while she's happy to buy me Star Wars shirts and let me indulge my fandom in low-dollar increments, she's not interested in the game. Or games in general, I think. I believe the term she used is "dorky."
