I could be wrong on this, which I'm sure someone will correct me if I am, but I believe that FFG will make the most profit from this LCG than any of their others (active major ones) due to lack of licensing costs. Yes, I'd imagine they are starting with a deficit, being the acquisition costs of the license from AEG, but it's my understanding that they now own the license outright. Clearly Star Wars and AGoT are licensed products. Netrunner is licensed from WotC (The MTG people).

If this is indeed the case, then this is excellent news for the game...

And someone will undoubtedly say that they should lower their price because of this, but I am definitely not in that camp. I want them to make LOTS of money from this game to ensure it has maximum focus and continued growth.

FFG has keep the costs of cores, deluxes and packs for a loooong time. Never get enough credit for that. Not saying that I approve of crappy new deluxe box type.

I personally dislike the necessity of the tokens, but in general they do a reasonable job.

Maybe in the US, but the prices went up in the UK. Not really fair to say that though as it was an exchange rate reaction and reasonable.

I don't think Arkham has licensing costs, but that actually makes the commercial impetus lower. FFG need to recover what they've spent on the L5R license, so there is more impetus to make it a success. Of course you also have the existing fan base as well to help get it kickstarted (and help keep it sustainable).

It's a perfect commercial storm for their utmost focus.

The prices in Spain are the same as USA but in euros. Double edged sword right there.

It is obvious that FFG will want to recover their invesment in L5R but I do not see them anything... weird about it? It can be their next Terrinoth, they just need to manage it wisely.

I use the core boxes (and old deluxe ones) for storage. Elder Sign is a thing to behold. For Arkham Horror I am switching to pocket pages. Not sure of what I will use for L5R but as will be buying 3 cores, I should have enough room to store some stuff.

Though Broken Token just sells based on broad categories of card games, not game-specific. (Big-box/small-box, sleeved/unsleeved).

I flipped the insert from AGoT 2E over, and it holds four sleeved decks in Dragon Shield cardboard boxes, tokens in Chessex dice cases, and of course the melee cards, and everything fits snugly. Pretty sure the same approach will work here.

They do, but that box is intended to fit their LCG boxes, not sure about the newer boxes with thinner profiles. Though, honestly, I prefer to just upgrade to their Artist Wooden case anyway. I have Legendary stored in that and it's wonderful. For L5R though I might just store it all in binders (so much easier to deck build from) and put my decks in wooden boxes.

They sell a different one that "fits" the smaller ones, but even that one needs an elastic band to keep it closed (that they "graciously" include).

I also plan to use binder pages. Been doing it with Thrones and Lord of the Rings.

Ah that's awkward. At least the option exists , even if its subpar. Now I'm just searching for and looking at ridiculously beautiful wooden deck boxes for this game. O_o

Well, to keep the profit margins up for the packs, they switched to the new plastic clamshells over the old cardboard pack. Now, they just print sheets of the display cards rather than a full on folding box.

Hrm, I guess I'm going to have to get some wood to make a proper box.

While some wooden boxes are a thing of beauty i'll probably stick to something like this:

If only we could get Clan colors and a Mon on a similar deckbox...

Aside from the conversion, don't forget that European taxes include tax, while North American prices don't. So, to compare them meaningfully, you need to subtract the tax from the European price.

Wrong. Flip the divider upside down and cut a lane down the center. You now have a three-row vertical card storage.

I just go with those plain, white, multi-row boxes that pretty much any game store sells. I'll use the first row or two for organizing cards, and the last row to hold tokens and constructed decks! When the expansions start filling the box, just upgrade to the next size up and save the old box for a future card game!

Im Too attached to the big AEG card storage boxes. They are too good!
