Star Wars IP. Makes the game worth playing.
Flying lots of ships that I am strongly nostalgic about. Yes even most of the S&V ships. I loved all things Star Wars back in the legends days so all those esoteric ships are cool to me.
The challenge of anticipating what your opponent will do next and moving to best engage him.
Having a way spending time with friends and family that doesn't involve a screen.
Building shenanigan and janky lists because if it works it's hilarious.
If you are an Original Trilogy fan, the first 3 waves with their fixes makes this game **** near perfect.
TIE Advanced with Raider Fix? Yes, please.
Y-Wing with BTL and Bomb Load out? Yummy.
X-Wing with Integrated astromech? Hell to the yes.
A-Wing/B-Wing with Rebel Aces? Mmmhmm.
Interceptors with Imperial Aces? Rock solid.
Tie Bomber shuttle and new pilots from Imperial Veterans? Well, they can't all be winners.
Throw in the CR-95, Transport, Raider, and Gozanti... There's more game here than I can ever get through.
(well I answered the last one honestly so I guess fair is fair.)
The cool minis getting posed against each other as the maneuvering system naturally allows you to set up dramatic situations like that perfect chase into range one on their tail or that hard turn and roll out of arc. The awesome times when your gimpy Rookie Pilot is down to one Hull and his R2 is shot and you luck into a perfect defense roll that pulls him through and he comes back around the corner to get that long range obstructed shot to blow the Bomber off his good buddies tail and just nails him with that focus for three hits. Those times when every ship mattered and the emergent cinematic experience was King.
A good, well-balanced, tactically and strategically interesting game.
Star Wars.
A lot of fiddly bits and optimisation in list building to occupy me outside the game and natter about with my friends and fellow players.
Star Wars.
Prepainted miniatures, but in a culture which still rewards repainting meaning that I get the best of both worlds - repainting ships at my own (glacial) pace, whilst still playing with fully painted ships in all my games.
Star Wars.
A healthy local play and tournament scene as well as an internet version, so I can reliably get games with a broad range of competitors.
Star Wars.
A good set of missions including a strong co-op mode (most of which I have admittedly yet to try).
Star Wars.
Did I mention Star Wars?
