What is "fun" about this game?

By Fuzzywookie, in X-Wing

I like meeting new players. Testing my skills. Learning new techniques. What about you?

Close games. If it can come down to one last, heart pounding last attack, that's what it's all about right there.

Surprising someone or being surprised by an off the wall list that actually works out well.

Meeting new people.

Mandalorians!

Matches that don't seem to make a lot of sense fluff-wise for the outcome

players helping others remember certain things they can do with their ships

"pew pew" "kaboom"

Mind vs mind. The same thing that makes any PVP game fun.

It's Star Wars.

I like the thrill of the game.

The thematic missions that look cool.

Seeing other people's repaints and wishing I could do that.

Creating my own cards & looking at other people's custom cards.

  • Being able to plan a maneuver that catches your opponent in arc (without having them boost and barrel roll out of there)
  • Using synergies and combos to pull off impressive attacks (or impressive dodges)
  • Playing different formats other than competitive standard (later, got to prep for an Epic game)

Building original lists to try and work out killer combos.

Crush your enemies.

See them driven before you.

And hear the lamentations of their women.

:)

Fixed it for ya ;)

STAR

WARS

Otherwise,

it's just another

collectible game

I would have avoided.

Hidden movement plotting. Imperfect information. Improbable results. Out-flying someone and having it actually matter. (And vice-versa.) Awesome pre-painted miniatures. Self-deprecating jokes with fellow players.

My wife being excited that I am excited. She plays once in a while and its great.

Its freakin STAR WARS!!!

Close games - my 2 hull Rookie X-Wing blanking a shot on a 1 health Blue B-Wing who then scored 3 hits to win the match.

Awesome minis

Quateable game moments - "I have you now!"

What isn't?

Pre-painted

I admit, I ran out of patience for painting wargaming models.

Along comes X-Wing. Pre-painted, Star Wars Property, Streamlined game system. Sold.

Nothing.

Ladies and gentlemen, I believe Darth Meanie has just won the internet.

And also provided the template for which all new topics must follow.

Just about everything!

SPACESHIPS!!!! PEW PEW!!!!

I enjoy most things about the game tbh. I enjoy the challenge of finding ways to beat better players and "meta" lists. I enjoy just throwing dice and having a laugh. I enjoy HotAC. I enjoy repainting my ships. I enjoy the Star Wars fluff. I enjoy everything. Other than opening new blister packs. They always draw blood.

I enjoy moving the models around. It's a fun game in general, but I take particular enjoyment from physically placing the templates and moving the ships along them and boosting or barrel rolling.

Having fun games with friends, discussing tactics, combo's etc. not worrying if the list would work will in a tournament. And of course it Star Wars.

There’s a lot I like about this game, but I have to say that it being STAR WARS is at the top of the list. If it wasn’t Star Wars, it wouldn’t be half as much fun.

I like the idea of the game. I love setting a scenario that I can then play through. Rebels attacking an Imperial patrol or Scum trying to raid a big ship. I like setting up which ships to use and little squads of ships that work together. I like figuring out what load-outs for specific ships. I like setting up one target here and reinforcements come in there. Creating a thematic event is just so much fun.

I also like making lists with unusual interactions. I like making up a list that no one expects what’s coming. I like the mental game of luring someone into my trap.

The game is fun as a beer and pretzels type game. I like putting up a bunch of Star Wars ships on the table and whether it’s a mission, Mario Kart, or just a big furball, I like rolling dice, going “pew pew” and seeing ships blow up. I think one of the best games I played recently was my Beggar’s Canyon one. I lost it at the last minute, but I laughed my butt off. So much fun.

Dials are amazing, such a great mechanic. Still my favourite part of the game is choosing moves and waiting for the reveal.

Thinking there's a tiny Han Solo sitting next to a tiny Chewbacca in that tiny falcon, being chased by a tiny Darth Vader.
