M9-G8 and Weapons Engineer

By Kervin, in X-Wing Rules Questions

With the two target locks you get from Weapons Engineer, would that allow for two re-rolls (one per lock)?

Card Text
When a ship you have locked is attacking, you may choose 1 attack die. The attacker must reroll that die. You can acquire target locks on other friendly ships.

You may maintain 2 target locks (only 1 per enemy ship). When you acquire a target lock, you may lock onto 2 different ships.

Each of the two ships you have locked can be made to reroll when it's attacking, but you can't make one ship reroll two dice.

ETA: Even if Weapons Engineer did allow you to have two locks on the same ship, you wouldn't be able to trigger M9-G8 more than once during a ship's attack, and the astromech would have to be reworded to allow more than one rerolled die, regardless of how many locks are present.

...and another thing!

I have built this for a casual play: Sheatiped with M9G8 and weapon engineer, plus two ships with TLT. With a target lock on each of his friends, will they be able to reroll for each of the tlt's attacks?

Yes.

While, technically , you would be allowed to target lock one friendly ship with two locks (given that the restriction on multiple-locking a ship applies only to enemy ships), the effect of the droid only allows a single die to be rolled, if you have at least one target lock on that ship, not once for each target lock you have.

Remember that TLT is considered one attack. So aplies that @emeraldbeacon says.

Ok, so one dice only can be rerolled on the "3+3" TLT attack. Thanks!

No.

You can reroll one die per shot of TLT. The poster above is wrong.

As I understand "attacking" begins with the target selection and ends in step 10. Then you have 1 attack and 1 dice to modify. If you reroll one dice per shot you are modifying two dices. This is like Miranda Doni.

There's room for that interpretation, but it's not the one the rules use. TLT (and Cluster Missile) lets you have two distinct Modify Dice steps where you can spend all of your 'once per attack/defence' things on each one.

It only has one 'declare target' step, and only one 'after attacking' step, however. Check the timing chart.

Miranda's ability only works on one of the two TLT shots because it's once per round, not because there's only one trigger for it.

Then it is like Captain Jonus!

"When another friendly ship at Range 1 attacks with a secondary weapon, it may reroll up to 2 attack dice. "

Captain Jonus FAQ
"If another friendly ship performs multiple attacks with a secondary weapon (such as Cluster Missiles), Captain Jonus may use his ability for each attack."

Thanks :)

Yup. That's one of the many sources of precedent.

The 'counts as one attack' for the most part only applies for stuff that happens 'before' or 'after' the attack - the pre and post steps only happen once, despite there being two attacks between them (so you only declare a target once, for example).
