Newbie question on crits.

By Asmodi, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi all

ive read through some stickies but can't seem to find the answer to this very basic question.

if I roll a crit and the defender still has shields on the hull I attacked is the Crit just classed as 1 damage and removes a shield or do I still deal a face up card even though it has shields?

thanks

:D

You Roll your Attack Dice.

You Modify Your Attack Dice.

The Defender Spends his Token

NOW, Look at your Dice.

If you have at least one "CRIT" showing , you can resolve a critical effect. That critical effect depends on what you're equipped with - if its nothing special, the critical effect only says "The FIRST CARD I DEAL THIS ATTACK, will be face up."

THEN, you calculate the amount of HIT and CRIT symbols you have. Each of those are 1 point of damage.

You apply the Damage Point by Point.

If the damage hits a shield, it takes down the shield.

If the damage hits the hull, you deal a Damage Card. This will be face down, unless, like above, you have something taht says otherwise.

Thanks for the reply but it's a very overly complicated reply that does not answer the simple question.

yes or no

i roll 1 die and it's a crit. The defender has shields on the hull I am attacking.

Do I deal a face up card or does it just take a shield off? Forget tokens etc this is just a yes or no

No

Thought you might want to know why, though.

Yes.

Lol one says yes another says no.

I play Xwing and unless all shields are down no crits are done but this isn't Xwing

You asked an either/or question and then asked for yes or no. I gave you strict Boolean answer.

You do not deal a face up card unless you deal a card, because:

If you do not deal a damage card, no damage card is dealt face up. If you do deal a damage card, the first damage card is dealt face up.

RRG pg 2 ATTACK said:

Each ship has the following standard critical effect: “If the defender is dealt at least one damage card by this attack, deal the first damage card faceup.”

my spacebar is hard to push

I can't believe how I kept misreading that.

No card, no crit.

Cheers guys

In short: If the enemy doesn't get a damage card and you don't have a special Crit card equipped to the attacking ship then the critical counts as a standard damage.

If you have no special card you have to choose wether to ise the card's critical effect or use the standard and deal the first card faceup. Obviuoslx if you couldn't penetrate the enemy shields yet, youl'll want to use the special crit effect.

That's not very nice.... linking another forum that requires membership to down load the file you're on about....when you could just link to this thread.

Awesome prize for local tournaments.

The crit defines only the way dmg card is dealt, if any. If you had a crit this attack, then resolve the card face up. If no, face down. It doesn't matter WHEN the crit was resolved.

Note that the crit doesn't "add" face up card, it just flips up the first card that is given this attack. Of course the crit gives +1 dmg, so it feels like it adds a card, but technically it's not like that.

On a side note....

If I get hit by APT's and a black crit is rolled and the attack does 4 points of damage but I have 1 shield do I.....

Pull a face up damage card and 3 more face down.....

or.....

Pull a face up damage card and 2 more face down.....

i.e. is the APT crit extra or part of the damage?

Resolve Crit

Count Damage

Apply Damage 1 point at a time:

So:

APT - Deal a Face up Card Immedaitely

Count Damage: 4

Apply Damage 1 point at a time:

- 1 Shield
- 1 Hull (Face Down)
- 1 Hull (Face Down)
- 1 Hull (Face Down)

It does what, now?

Extra. The effect is "One Face-Up Damage Card," and after you do that, you start counting how much damage you actually did. Crit symbols do 1 damage, so it will now do an "extra" damage.
