JUMP SCARES!!!!

By Bibbles, in Mansions of Madness

I have a pretty amazing wi-fi sound system built into the ceiling of my thoroughly decked out games room. With cool lighting effects and glowing weapons on the wall that I can change the colours of the glow remotely. Its pretty immersive. With the addition of costume pearl necklaces, derby hats, bowlers and other 1920 hats its certainly a geektacular adventure.

This game has made the best use of that sound system and provides the immersive gaming style I crave. I would really really love it if I could turn the volume of the jump scares up a little and make them more jarring. It certainly makes people focus on the game and raise the tension. Further I would love it if when the board is more dominated by creatures or as the adventure moves along if the music would intensify.

Creature noises would not hurt at all. ;)

Anyone else?

I have not jumped or anything like that... but I sure have looked over my shoulders a few times. I play in low lighting... lol!

Dat Mood!

Nope, but I'd not mind seeing a picture of your den just to die for envy, if you don't mind :D

Chuckle I would love to but I have 0.03 MB left

My best jumpscare was unintentional.
I have a hobby basement for my boardgame/wargame nights.
An evening i had 3 friends over for a good game of MoM.

At point point my daughter came Down to say goodnight daddy. None of os had heard her Down the stairs and when she opend the door it did so with a VERY horror movie creaking sound. Made all of us jump a good feet into the air :D
My daughter found it hilarious that she scared all of the grown ups :)

I made it small. I hope that gives you an idea. This will wipe out the rest of my upload space. I need to figure out how to delete stuff :)

That's awesome! I hope that I can do some like this when I get the chance!

Chuckle It wasn't that much money it was a TON OF TIME. Most of it is old junk wood, leftovers from constructions sites etc. Took me 6 years three friends and about 500 Strongbows. ;)

You can do it cheap but work hard at it or you can do it pricey and it will move fast.

Much of it is made out of insulation foam coated in thinset. The bookshelf/door is a hollowed out interior door with false foam books on it. It leads into the darkest caverns beneath the rivers of bleached bones and ancient rot to arrive at the cyclopean landry machines and fuse panel :)

Well its a great job. Well done. Really stylish :D

WOW thanks for all the positive feedback. Thats only one wall. It has four :) Anyone looking too get into this. I started with fieldstone wall wallpaper at home depot and from there it grew. But with a few wall hangings and that castle wall looking wallpaper it was pretty decent effect. There is still 5 square feet of wallpaper in that room. Its the very last of it. :)

I found a nice junk store that had 30 dollar swords and axes replicas. The wall paper was about 45 and a nice tapestry. I redid the window in faux stained glass from Michaels. It wasn't that big a deal and brought the ambiance.

That looks fantastic, I've been meaning to get my upstairs done the same way. We have a custom table that a buddy and a 24 pack of beer built out of 2x4's and plywood. It's super sturdy and is a 5' x 7' gaming surface.

Id love to see a picture. :)

These were taken the day I built it, so almost 3 years ago. I still need to sand it and stain it then put a sealant layer on.

Apparently the files are way too large to put up.

I'm still trying to figure out how to put stuff in my gallery... also, if someone knows where all the "friends" we've got on the previous edition of the site ended...

I've jumped a couple of times, but it's because of a few coincidental items out of the game.

for example, one time when playing the intro scenario, I just read "a loud knock sounds from the fat door and a cultist runs in" and at that exact moment a knock came on my real door as the pizza guy was delivering dinner for all of us. Still not convinced he wasn't a cultist though.

Did the pizza have extra tentacles on it?
