Painting the bumpy bits on the Daqan spears

By Hos, in Runewars Painting and Modeling

Help! I don't know what colour to paint these bits. I'm painting my Daqan in black and white, ie Black Templar.

From what I've seen people usually paint them white or not even bother, and just the whole spear wood. I went white on a few of my minis, and it just doesn't look right - esp on the spears that have ten "bumps". Not sure what to do.

Well, "official" pictures show them as white (some kind of cloth wrapping). Personally I might color code them: white for my first 16 figures, blue for my next 16, etc. This way I have the possibility to visually distinguish multiple units of spearmen, and apply a sticker of the corresponding color on their associated unit card (so I know which unit card and its upgrades correspond to which unit on the playing area).

I imagine you would paint the wrapping in the same color as the cloth that hangs down in front.

If you're referring to the cloth wrappings, I think i just skipped them entirely for "tabletop" level speed-painting. However, I think it's a good chance to either tie the spear in with the rest of the model (black or white?) or to go with a completely different color that will pop out a bit and add some visual interest.

Maybe red would look cool?

Use red. An accenting color goes the distance visually, and red compliments white and black nicely.

And if Black Templars are your inspiration...

The sword brethren would like to have a word with you about skipping the red :(
